China’s aging not only shows the characteristics of rapid population growth, prolonged life expectancy, excessive population base, and increased number of disabled elderly, but also accompanied by the phenomenon of "aging of illness" and "inversion of urban and rural areas".In response to the problem of population aging, some scholars believe that active aging is the key to helping aging countries survive the aging crisis. To promote active aging,it is necessary to take the health of the elderly as the guarantee and the social participation of the elderly as the means. At present, domestic and foreign scholars have achieved some results in the research field related to social participation and health, but there is still room for further expansion of the research on the correlation between the two. Therefore, based on the existing literature, this paper focuses on the impact of different types of social participation on the health of the elderly, which is of great practical significance for realizing the active aging of the population and building a healthy China, and also provides an important basis for social workers to actively intervene in the improvement of the social participation status and health level of the elderly. This paper uses the latest 2018 data from CFPS(China Family Panel Studies)to use a multivariate ordered Logit regression model to explore the effects of different social participation categories on the health of the elderly. The results of the study showed that:(1)work-type social participation has a positive effect on the self-assessment health and self-care ability of urban empty nest elderly, but it does not have a significant impact on maintaining good mental health;(2)social participation has no significant impact on the health of the elderly;(3)recreational social participation has a significant positive impact on the health of the elderly;(4)housework social participation is conducive to the elderly to maintain good self-assessment health and self-care ability, but the impact on their mental health is not large;(5)Ordinary social participation not only positively affects the self-assessment health of the urban elderly but also positively affects their self-care ability, but the impact on their mental health is weak;(6)There are differences in the impact of the five types of participation on the health of the elderly, and the positive effect of ordinary social participation on the self-assessment health and self-care ability of the elderly is less than that of work-oriented,recreational and housework-type social participation. The above research results provide a basis for effectively improving the level of social participation and improving the health status of the elderly in China.Combined with the research results, this paper proposes the following policy suggestions: improve the national pension policy, borrow social forces to solve social problems;strengthen regional infrastructure construction to create conditions for meeting demand;give play to the strength of grass-roots organizations and cultivate community organizations. In addition, this paper proposes the following practical suggestions for social work intervention: social workers "prescribe the right medicine" to achieve accurate empowerment;social workers actively link resources to promote continuous empowerment;and social workers pay attention to "special groups" to achieve comprehensive empowerment. |
