Objective:In clinical nursing education context,to understand the general situation of perceived uncivilized behavior, career calling and academic burnout experienced by nursing students,to examines the direct influence of nursing students’ perceived incivility and career calling on academic burnout,as well as to explore the moderating role of career calling between the relationship of nursing students’ perceived incivility and academic burnout,so as to provide several empirical evidences and ideas for the development and management of clinical nursing education in the future. Methods:The convenience sampling method was used to collect samples from two tertiary hospitals in Wuhan Municipality. We surveyed 345 nursing students who are in clinical practice.Six sociodemographic questions, uncivilized behavior in clinical nursing education scale, calling scale, and academic burnout scale were used to collect data.SPSS Statistics 26.0 software was used to process the data.Description statistics,independent-samples t test,one-way analysis of variance, nonparametric rank sum test, pearson correlation, spearman rank correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis were used to estimate our research hypothesis.Results:(1)The score of uncivilized behavior in clinical nursing education scale was [7(0,19)],including the score of two subscales: dismissive behavior [5(0,12)] and exclusionary behavior [2(0,7)];and 72.5%(250/345)participants had perceived some degree of incivility during clinical nursing education. The average score of the calling scale was(2.96±0.94).The mean score of the academic burnout scale was(2.91±0.60).Among three dimensions of academic burnout scale, the highest score is dejection(2.93±0.69),followed by improper behaviour(2.93±0.65),and the lowest is reduced personal accomplishment(2.87±0.64).There were 39.7%(137/345)nursing students experienced academic burnout during clinical practice.(2)There were a statistically significant difference in the score of uncivilized behavior in clinical nursing education scale of nursing students in demographic characteristics, such as different ethnic, only child, education background,as well as the reason for choosing Nursing(P<0.05).The difference in the score of career calling among different reason for choosing Nursing by nursing students was statistically significant(P<0.05).Significant difference in the score of academic burnout with different ethnic and reason for choosing Nursing were found in nursing students(P<0.05).(3)The findings reveal that the perceived incivility in clinical nursing education by nursing students had significant positive effect on academic burnout(β=0.403,P<0.001),dejection(β=0.404,P<0.001),improper behaviour(β=0.339,P<0.001),and reduced personal accomplishment(β=0.335,P<0.001).(4)The results suggest that nursing students’ career calling had significant negative effect on their academic burnout(β=-0.632,P<0.001),dejection(β=-0.600,P<0.001),improper behaviour(β=-0.569,P<0.001),and reduced personal accomplishment(β=-0.537,P<0.001).(5)It indicated that career calling act as a negatively moderating role between the relationship of perceived incivility in clinical nursing education by nursing students and academic burnout(β=-0.376,P<0.001),dejection(β=-0.298,P<0.001),improper behaviour(β=-0.370,P<0.001),as well as reduced personal accomplishment(β=-0.372,P<0.001).Conclusion:(1)There were 72.5%(250/345)participants who had perceived some degree of incivility during clinical nursing education.Significant difference in perceived incivility in clinical nursing education by nursing students was found in terms of different ethnic, only child, education background,as well as the reason for choosing Nursing.(2)The level of career calling was moderate among nursing students. The difference in career calling with different reason for choosing Nursing by nursing students was statistically significant.(3)Academic burnout was reported in 39.7%(137/345)from nursing students during clinical practice. The level of academic burnout was moderate among nursing students.Significant difference in academic burnout with different ethnic and reason for choosing Nursing were found among nursing students.(4)Perceived incivility in clinical nursing education by nursing students positively predicted academic burnout, dejection, improper behaviour and reduced personal accomplishment.Nursing students’ career calling negatively predicted academic burnout, dejection, improper behaviour,as well as reduced personal accomplishment.(5)In the context of clinical nursing education, career calling negatively moderated the effect of perceived incivility in clinical nursing education by nursing students on academic burnout, dejection, improper behaviour,as well as reduced personal accomplishment.
