Objective:The disease cognition questionnaire for parents of children with febrile seizures was prepared to investigate parents’ disease cognition situation, illness uncertainty and coping strategies of children with febrile seizures, this paper analyzes the affecting factors of their coping strategies, and discusses the relationship among the above three aspects,so as to provide a reference for clinical medical staff to identify parents’ uncertainty of illness, improve their cognitive level of illness, and formulate health education on diseases to optimize their coping strategies. Methods:In this study,323 parents of children with febrile seizures who were admitted to the emergency department of a tertiary care hospital are selected as the research objects by using the convenience sampling method. The data are collected through 4 self-designed questionnaires: General Information Questionnaire,Febrile Seizures Perception Questionnaire,Chinese Version of Parents’ Illness Uncertainty Scale, and Chinese Version of Parents’ Coping Strategies Scale. The data are processed by SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 22.0.The general information of children and their parents is described in terms of frequency and percentage. The scores and total scores of illness perception, illness uncertainty and coping strategies are described by mean and standard deviation.A t-test or one-way analysis of variance is used to compare the differences in illness perception, illness uncertainty, and coping strategies scores among parents with different demographic characteristics, and the data with statistically significant differences are compared in both directions. The Pearson correlation measures are used to determine the correlation among the three variables, and the multiple stepwise regression is used to analyze the factors influencing the coping strategies of parents of children with febrile seizures. On the basis of the above analyses, this paper is devoted to analyzing the intermediary effect among the three variables.Results:1.In two rounds of consultation,The expert’s authority coefficient was 0.85 and 0.95,Kendall’s coefficient of concordance P was less than 0.01,the coefficient of variation was0.00~0.21 and 0.00~0.10,respectively.The scale-level content validity index(S-CVI)of the questionnaire was 0.971,and the reliability of the pre-questionnaire was 0.783,indicating good reliability and validity. Therefore, the final questionnaire was determined.2.The total score of parents’ perception of illness in children with febrile seizures is(42.32±3.19),the score of each dimension is(25.64±2.22),and the score of family behavior is(16.68±1.96).The one-way analysis shows statistical significance in differences in the illness perception scores of the parents in terms of gender, age, education level, and family residence.3.The parents of children with febrile seizures scored(78.95±4.97)in illness uncertainty,(23.32±5.80)in complexity,(32.98±11.54)in uncertainty,(10.13±3.27)in unpredictability and(14.47±4.17)in lack of information. The highest scores are complexity dimension and ambiguity dimension.Parents with high level, medium level and low level of illness uncertainty account for 18.33%,77.33% and 4.33%,respectively.The one-way analysis shows statistical significance in differences in illness uncertainty scores in terms of education level, occupation, monthly family income, and family residence.4.The score of coping strategies and use frequency is(142.28±7.36),and the score of influence is(86.72±5.37).Among them, dimension onemaintaining family unity, cooperation and optimistic attitude scored the highest in frequency and influence, and dimension three scored the lowest in frequency and influence. The one-way analysis shows statistical significance in differences in coping strategies scores in terms of age and monthly family income. The multiple stepwise regression indicates that each dimension of illness perception and illness uncertainty is the main factor of coping strategies, which could explain 46.9% of its variation.5.The parents’ illness perception is negatively correlated with each dimension of illness uncertainty(r=-0.432,-0.397,-0.231,-0.139,P < 0.01),and positively correlated with coping strategies(r=0.305,P < 0.01).There is a positive correlation between the dimensions of parents’ illness uncertainty, while the coping strategies of the parents are negatively correlated with all dimensions of illness uncertainty(r=-0.578,-0.632,-0.216,-0.201,P<0.01).6.The structural equation model reveals a partial intermediary effect of illness uncertainty between illness perception and coping strategies, with the intermediary effect of 40.48%.Conclusion:1.Self-made disease cognition questionnaire has good reliability and validity, which can understand the disease cognition level of parents.2.Parents of children with febrile seizures have a medium level of illness perception and illness uncertainty, and have low scores on parents’ coping strategies. There is much room for improvement.3.Illness perception and illness uncertainty of parents of children with febrile seizures are important factors of coping strategies.Illness perception can directly affect coping strategies, and it can also affect coping strategies by influencing illness uncertainty.
