Objective:To compare interval exercise training with continuous exercise training in homebased exercise training for patients with COPD.Methods:A project team was established to design two pulmonary rehabilitation exercise training study protocols(continuous exercise training and interval exercise training).Consecutively enrolled 99 patients with mild to moderate stable COPD admitted from November 2020 to October 202 in a hospital in Shantou were randomly assigned to the interval exercise training group(group 1),the continuous exercise training group(group2),and the usual control group(group 3).All participants were able to contact the researchers on the We Chat platform and participants of the same group were assigned to the same We Chat group. And after 3 months of intervention, the lung function, exercise capacity, quality of life and participation of patients in the 3 groups were analyzed. Results:A total of 92 patients completed the study, and compared with the control group, patients in group 1 and group 2 had better lung function [P<0.001,95% CI(2.10,3.36);P<0.001,95% CI(1.15,2.40)],exercise capacity [P=0.002,95% CI(-12.08,-2.17);P=0.005,95% CI(-11.55,12.17)] and quality of life [P<0.001,95% CI(3.27,7.16);P<0.001,95% CI(3.15,8.40)] were improved, and lung function was better in group 1than in group 2 at both months 2 and 3 after the intervention(F=4.57,P=0.026;F=5.27,P=0.018),exercise capacity was better in group 1 than in group 2 at both month 2 postintervention(F=2.19,P=0.001),quality of life was better in group 1 than in group 2 at months 1,2 and 3 post-intervention(F=2.98,P=0.035;F=4.33,P=0.036;F=1.84,P=0.018),and at months 1,2 and 3 after the intervention, times of exercises were higher in group 1 than in group 2(F=8.65,P=0.006;F=4.75,P=0.037;F=18.75,P<0.001).Conclusion:Interval exercise training may be more consistent with the exercise preferences of COPD patients in China, and patients in the interval exercise group will have greater improvement in all indicators as the training time increases.
