objectiveThe Self-Management Assessment Scale of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus patients(SLE)was developed and tested for reliability and validity to provide a standardised measurement tool for assessing the self-management level of SLE patients, analysing their self-management needs and verifying the effectiveness of relevant interventions.Method1.Construction of item pool:Based on the theory of self-management,extensive literature review was conducted both domestically and internationally, and interviews were conducted with patients and medical staff with SLE using self-management related scales that have been developed both domestically and internationally.According to the characteristics of patients with SLE,the item pool of the scale has been initially constructed.2.Form a pre-investigation scale:The initial pool of scale entries was initially screened using the Delphi method to form the SLE Patients Self-Management Assessment Pre-Survey Scale after a clinical pre-survey.3.Finalization and evaluation of the scale:The Self-Management Pre-Survey Scale was employed to construct a questionnaire, and a clinical questionnaire was obtained from SLE patients. The Critical Ratio,Correlation coefficient,Cronbach’s α coefficient, and Discrete Trend methods were then utilized to further evaluate and finalize the scale. The reliability of the scale was gauged through Cronbach’s α coefficient,split-half coefficient, and retest reliability, while the validity of the SLE Patients Self-Management Scale was established through the Lynn four-point scale, correlation analysis, and exploratory factor analysis.Result1.Based on the self-management theory, literature review and qualitative interviews,a pool of items in the SLE patients self-management evaluation scale with 4 dimensions and 64 items was initially constructed.2.The 2 rounds of questionnaires were filled out by a total of 15 experts,93.75%and 100%were the effective recall rates of the 2 rounds of questionnaires respectively.0.932 and 0.927 were the expert authority coefficients of the 2 rounds of questionnaires respectively.0.340 and 0.198 were the Kendall coordination coefficients of the 2 rounds of questionnaires respectively. In the 1st round of expert consultation,3 experts proposed changes and in the 2nd round of consultation,1 expert proposed changes.30 items were deleted,2 items were combined and 9 items were modified after the 2 rounds of expert consultation, resulting in the construction of an initial scale with a total of 33 items.During the pre-survey,patients indicated that the questions were clearly formulated and the language was easy to understand. Therefore, the scale was not modified after the pre-survey.3.A total of 8 items were removed from the item analysis and 25 items were retained. The total scale’s Cronbach’s a coefficient was 0.888,and the four dimensions’ Cronbach’s αcoefficient spanned from 0.783 to 0.965;the fold-half reliability for the total scale was 0.742,and the fold-half reliability for the four dimensions ranged from 0.777 to 0.966;the retest reliability for the total scale was 0.846,and the retest reliability for the four dimensions ranged from 0.702 to 0.930,respectively,all of which were statistically significant. The content validity index at the scale level was 0.980,and the content validity index at the entry level of the scale ranged from 0.860 to 1.000,indicating that the scale had high content validity;the exploratory factor analysis yielded five factors with eigenvalues>1,and their cumulative variance contribution rate was 64.969%.The gravel plot revealed four shared factors, resulting in a total of 25 entries. After the 4 male factors had been extracted, the scale’s cumulative variance contribution was 60.833%and the factor loadings of the 25 entries spanned from 0.513 to 0.964.ConclusionThe Self-management Assessment Scale, which is highly dependable and valid, can be utilized as an assessment tool for the self-management level of those with SLE.
