| ObjectiveThrough a survey on the medical risk perception of preoperative cancer patients,we investigated the current situation of medical risk perception and clinical treatment decision of this group, and explored the factors influencing the participation of cancer patients in treatment decision before surgery. This study will provide a theoretical basis for improving the medical risk perception of this group of patients and for improving medical decision making among medical institutions, medical personnel and patients.MethodsIn this study,a questionnaire survey of preoperative cancer patients was conducted in two tertiary hospitals in Liaoning Province using convenience sampling, which included a clinical patient survey,a self-administered preoperative patient medical risk perception questionnaire, and a participation in treatment decision-making scale.SPSS26.0 software was used to statistically analyze the data, and Kappa consistency test,T-test,Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression were applied to analyze the survey respondents’ perceptions of medical risks, the current status of their clinical treatment decisions, and the factors influencing their treatment decisions.Statistical significance was determined at P<0.05.ResultsA total of 350 qualified questionnaires were returned from the questionnaire survey. The mean score of actual degree of participation in treatment decision making of preoperative cancer patients was(1.75±0.50),and the mean score of attitude of participation in treatment decision making of preoperative cancer patients was(1.56±0.52);the results of Kappa consistency test showed poor agreement between the total score and each item of actual degree of participation in treatment decision making of preoperative cancer patients and attitude of participation in treatment decision making;the results of T-test showed that the actual degree of participation in treatment decision making of preoperative cancer patients and attitude of participation in treatment decision making were different(P<0.05).The results of t-test showed that the actual degree of participation in treatment decision making differed from the attitude toward treatment decision making(P<0.05);Pearson correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between each variable;the results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that whether or not they had experienced surgery, economic risk in medical risk perception and time risk were factors influencing the actual degree of participation in treatment decision making among preoperative cancer patients(P<0.05).Economic risk, time risk and psychological risk in the perception of medical risk were influential factors in the attitude of preoperative cancer patients to participate in treatment decision making(P<0.05).ConclusionsThe actual level of participation in treatment decision making and attitude toward treatment decision making among preoperative cancer patients were both at low levels, and the actual level of participation in treatment decision making among preoperative cancer patients was influenced by surgical experience, economic risk in medical risk perception, and temporal risk. The actual level of preoperative cancer patients’ participation in treatment decision making is influenced by their experience of surgery and the perceived economic risk, time risk and psychological risk of medical risk.Medical staff should pay attention to the medical risk perception of cancer patients and strive to improve their technical and communication skills;patients should clarify that they enjoy autonomy in disease treatment and medical decision making and actively participate in treatment decision making. |
