| Objective: To objectively evaluate the clinical efficacy of valued umbilical acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of optic nerve atrophy of liver-depression and spleen-deficiency type by observing the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),mean deviation(MD),pattern standard deviation(PSD),vessel density of radial eripapillary apillaries(RPC VD),and total TCM symptom score before and after treatment, using basic TCM theory and umbilical acupuncture theory as guidance. Methods: Sixty patients with liver depression and spleen deficiency type optic nerve atrophy who met the diagnostic criteria and were seen at the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from December 2021 to December 2022 were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Chinese medicine and cytarabine sodium tablets, while the treatment group was treated with umbilical acupuncture therapy together with Chinese medicine and cytarabine sodium tablets, and both treatment cycles were2 courses. The BCVA,MD,PSD,RPC VD and total TCM symptom score were observed before and after treatment in both groups, and statistical analysis was performed to evaluate their clinical efficacy.Results:(1)Comparison between groups before treatment: There was no significant difference between the two groups in gender, age,BCVA,MD,PSD,RPC VD and total TCM symptom score(P>0.05),which were comparable.(2)BCVA: There was a significant difference(P < 0.001)in the intra-group comparison between the two groups before and after treatment, indicating that both treatment methods could improve patients’ BCVA;the difference in BCVA between the two groups after treatment was statistically significant(P=0.019),and the BCVA of the treatment group was better than that of the control group.(3)Visual field: There was a significant difference(P<0.001)in the intra-group comparison of MD and PSD of the two groups before and after treatment, indicating that both treatment methods could improve the visual field defects of the patients;the differences in MD(P=0.004)and PSD(P=0.008)between the two groups after treatment were statistically significant, and the improvement of MD and PSD in the treatment group was better than that in the control group.(4)RPC VD: There was a significant difference between the two groups before and after treatment(P<0.001),indicating that both treatment methods could improve the RPC VD of patients;there was no statistically significant difference in RPC VD between the two groups after treatment(P=0.526),which could not indicate that the improvement of RPC VD in the treatment group was better than that in the control group.(5)Comparison of the total effective rate of the two groups: The total effective rate of the test and control groups after treatment was 86.67% and63.33%,respectively,with statistically significant differences(P=0.015),indicating that umbilical acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine can effectively improve the visual function of patients.(6)Total TCM syndrome score: There was a significant difference between the two groups before and after treatment(P<0.001),indicating that both treatment methods could improve the patients’ TCM syndrome;the difference between the two groups after treatment was statistically significant(P<0.001),and the improvement of TCM syndrome in the treatment group was better than that in the control group. Conclusion:Umbilical acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine is effective in treating liver-depression and spleen-deficiency type optic nerve atrophy, which can effectively improve the visual function of patients and has good clinical application value. |
