| Cleft lip and palate(CLP)is a congenital oral and maxillofacial deformity that causes impaired oral function and abnormal appearance, and affects the patient’s mental health and social skills.Body sociologists mainly focus on how patients with CLP experience and understand their diseased body, they believe that the physical experience and physical identity of patients with CLP are influenced by social culture, and may feel more discrimination and prejudice in social life,in addition, patients with CLP are also affected by medical knowledge due to defects, and patients feel more and more pressure as the treatment of CLP sequences becomes more and more standardized. At present, research on CLP is mainly focused on the medical field, and less on the daily life of patients. This paper adopts qualitative research methods, selects 37 patients with CLP and their families as research objects, and sorts out the various dilemmas of patients with CLP in life practice and medical practice through interviews, observations and collations of their own text stories, including problems such as appearance deformity, unclear speech, and psychological inferiority derived from the patient’s own defects,as well as various stigmas and discrimination felt from social life,as well as physical pain, surgical failure, difficulty in seeking medical treatment, etc.formed in the process of repairing defects.Expensive medical treatment and other issues. These dilemmas extend from before birth to adulthood, from the patient to family, friends, partners, and offspring. The innovation point of this paper is to present a more comprehensive image of patients with CLP,showing the various troubles faced by patients in real society under the action of social normative forces, and their defective bodies are constantly highlighted in these predicaments and gradually become labels that are difficult to remove. This article attempts to explore whether the future life difficulties of patients with CLP will be better or worse.Due to the pressure of "normalization" social norms and the continuous embedding of national population management techniques into patients’ daily physical practice, the meaning of life of patients with CLP has been traced from various difficulties to the illegitimacy of their birth.A large number of abortion cases show that in a Ableism society, eugenics and genetic concepts have become common sense, and the bodies of patients with CLP and fetuses always do not meet the normal standards of society, they not only feel inferior to their own defects, but also feel ashamed because of their low self-esteem,their bodies are considered unsound by others, and their lack of confidence is also a personality defect in the eyes of others. At the same time, under the integration of state power, medical technology and consumerism, patients must rely on repair technology to return to the normal life track, they are eager to repair their lives by repairing defects, full of beautiful fantasies about their future physical form, but when they repair themselves, they find themselves walking on thin ice between technical charm and surgical risk, and their future life predicament does not seem optimistic. |
