Objectives1.The purpose of this study was to investigate the current situation of pain degree, coping style and quality of life of female college students with primary dysmenorrhea(PD),and to analyze the factors influencing the degree of menstrual pain in this group,in order to improve the importance of PD among female college students and to provide a scientific and theoretical basis for helping them to develop good living habits and reduce pain degree.2.The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between pain degree, coping style and quality of life, and to verify whether coping style mediates the effect between pain degree and quality of life,so as to provide a reference for future health education for female college students with PD from the perspective of coping style to reduce their pain degree and improve their quality of life.MethodsThis study was a cross-sectional study. In this study,390 female college students with PD in Anhui Province colleges and universities were selected as the study population by convenience sampling from May to September 2022,the General Information Questionnaire, the Cox Menstrual Symptom Scale(CMSS),the 36-item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36),and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ)were used to survey the patients. The data were entered and verified by two individuals. After verification, statistical software SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 24.0 were used for descriptive analysis(mean ± standard deviation((?)±s)for measurement data and number of cases and composition ratio for count data),independent samples t-test or one-way ANOVA,multiple linear regression analysis,Pearson correlation analysis, and constructive structural equation model.Results1.In this study,390 questionnaires were distributed,390 questionnaires were collected,21 questionnaires that did not meet the requirements and 11 questionnaires that were incomplete were excluded, and the remaining 358 questionnaires were valid, with a valid return rate of 91.8%.2.In this study, the total pain degree score of female college students with PD was(39.40±22.84);among them, the attack time score was(19.94±11.82)and the mean pain degree score was(19.46±11.05).The results of univariate analysis showed that BMI,monthly per capita household income, family history of dysmenorrhea, eating spicy and stimulating food, eating cold food, usual physical exercise, relationship with classmates, study stress, eating cold food during menstruation and duration of dysmenorrhea affected the pain degree of patients(P<0.05).The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that BMI≤18.4,per capita monthly household income, family history of primary dysmenorrhea, eating spicy and stimulating foods, study stress, eating cold and raw foods during menstruation and duration of primary dysmenorrhea were independent influencing factors of pain degree in female college students with PD.3.In this study, the total coping style score of female college students with PD was(32.83±4.76),with positive coping style and negative coping style dimension scores of(20.70±7.04)and(12.13±4.34),respectively;the total quality of life score was(123.83±35.48),and the scores for the eight dimensions of bodily pain, role physical, general health, physical functioning, mental health, vitality, social functioning, and role emotional were(58.20±18.77),(50.07±33.34),(59.49±18.34),(76.51±16.15),(71.58±14.94),(60.18±16.94),(61.94±20.10),and(57.36±35.38).4.In this study,Pearson correlation analysis showed that the pain degree of female college students with PD was significantly negatively correlated(P<0.01)with both positive coping style(r=-0.843)and quality of life(r=-0.876),and significantly positively correlated with negative coping style(r=0.799,P<0.01);quality of life was significantly positively correlated with positive coping style(r=0.838,P<0.01),and negatively correlated with negative coping style(r=-0.801,P<0.01).5.In this study, pain degree of female college students with PD was taken as the independent variable, positive coping style and negative coping style as the mediating variable, and quality of life as the dependent variable. The fitting index of the model was as follows: CMIN/DF=2.595,RMSEA=0.067,GFI=0.931,AGFI=0.901,NFI=0.966,RFI=0.957,IFI=0.979,TLI=0.973,CFI=0.979,indicating that the model was well fitted. The degree of pain directly affected the quality of life, and also indirectly affected the quality of life through positive coping style and negative coping style.Conclusions1.In this study, the pain degree of female college students with PD was at a moderate level, which was affected by BMI,per capita family monthly income, family history of primary dysmenorrhea, eating spicy and stimulating food, eating cold and raw food, daily physical exercise, relationship with classmates, study pressure, eating cold and raw food during menstruation, and duration of dysmenorrhea.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that BMI≤18.4,family per capita monthly income, family history of primary dysmenorrhea, eating spicy and stimulating food, study pressure, eating cold and raw food during menstruation, and duration of dysmenorrhea were important predictors of pain degree of female college students with PD.2.In this study, there was a significant correlation between pain degree, coping style, quality of life and various dimensions of female college students with PD.Patients with less pain tended to adopt active coping methods, and their quality of life was less affected by the negative effects of menstrual pain.On the contrary, the more severe patients’ pain, the more inclined they were to choose negative coping styles, the greater the negative impact on their quality of life.3.In this study, pain degree of female college students with PD can not only directly affect quality of life, but also indirectly affect quality of life through coping styles, that is,both positive coping style and negative coping style play a partial mediating role between pain degree and quality of life.
