| Objective:To understand the current situation of social anxiety and childhood adversity of nursing students in the clinical setting,as well as the relationship between childhood adversity and social anxiety, and to explore the mediating role of personality traits and coping styles between childhood adversity and social anxiety,so as to provide theoretical basis for further intervention to alleviate social anxiety of nursing students in the clinical setting. Methods:In this study,341 nursing students from two third-class A hospitals in Chengdu,Sichuan Province were selected as research objects by convenient sampling method.Childhood adversity, personality traits, coping styles and social anxiety were measured by the revised childhood Adverse Experience questionnaire, the revised Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, the Simple Coping style Questionnaire and the Social Avoidance and Distress Inventory, respectively.A general information questionnaire was developed to measure socio-demographic characteristics through a literature review and group discussion.SPSS21.0 software and PROCESS plug-in were used for data statistics and analysis.Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multivariate analysis of variance and path analysis were performed. Results:The results of this study showed that the intern nurses had higher social anxiety, and there were statistical differences in the population sociological variables of ethnicity and residence place(P<0.05).The student nursing students survived in higher childhood adversity(35.8%),and the student nursing students who grew up in single-parent families had the highest childhood adversity score, but there was no statistical significance in other demographic sociological data(P>0.05).Conclusion:1.General population sociology data: it is basically consistent with the previous research situation in China. The educational background of practicing nursing parents is generally low,so it is suggested that educators should communicate more with their parents, detect problems in time and take effective measures; The proportion of mental illness or head trauma was 3.8%,which can be used as reference for future research.2.Childhood adversity of nursing students in practice: It is lower than the norm of college students and medical students in China, but this research is rare in China, which deserves further attention;Single-parent families deserve more attention and concern. It is suggested that nursing students who grow up in big families form study groups with such groups.Provide a counseling hotline for people experiencing severe adversity, establish a profile, keep an eye on it,and maintain privacy.3.Personality traits of student nursing students: personality is mainly intermediate type, but there are differences in the four dimensions of extraversion, neuroticism, psychoticism and concealability compared with the Chinese norm. Therefore, the influence of personality traits of student nursing students and population sociological variables on them needs to be further studied.4.Coping styles of nursing students: Educators and clinical teachers should pay more attention to those nursing students with stay-behind experience and parents with poor physical conditions, and teach them positive coping styles and skills,so that they can better adapt to clinical practice life.5.Social anxiety of nursing interns: social anxiety and social distress are higher than the norm of Chinese college students, and social avoidance is lower than the norm of college students, which may be related to the nature of work;Hui nationality and urban population, introverted, neurotic, lying tendency of people more worthy of attention.6.Analysis of mediating effect: According to beck’s cognitive theory, under the influence of personality traits, nursing interns who experience childhood adversity adopt negative coping styles to cause social anxiety, and negative coping plays a greater role;It is suggested to set up a discussion group on improving clinical social ability,to stimulate student nurses’ personality strengths such as creativity and perseverance,to teach them positive coping ways and avoid negative coping,so as to relieve social anxiety(and social distress and social avoidance),improve their social ability,so that they can better adapt to practice life and play a better nursing level. |
