Objective: To investigate the clinical value of serum IL-17 level in acute bronchial asthma for airway inflammation and disease evaluation. Methods: The clinical data of61 patients with acute exacerbation of bronchial asthma admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from December 2021 to July 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into mild(21 cases),moderate(22cases)and severe(18 cases)groups according to the severity of their disease. At the same time,30 healthy adults in the same period were selected as the control group.Peripheral blood eosinophil(EOS)count, peripheral blood neutrophil(NEU)count, serum total immunoglobulin E(IgE),serum interleukin-17(IL-17)and pulmonary function tests were measured in the four groups. The relationship between IL-17 and serum total IgE,EOS,NEU,pulmonary function and severity of illness was analyzed to provide methods for the diagnosis and treatment of asthma of different severity. Results: The peripheral blood levels of IL-17,NE,EOS,and IgE were higher in 61 patients in the asthma group than in30 control patients(t=-12.632,-10.382,-5.395,-4.668,P<0.05),but the pulmonary function indexes FEV1,FVC,PEF%,and FV1/FVC were lower than in the control group(t=15.700,8.440,17.811,20.788,P < 0.05).The peripheral blood EOS,NE,IgE and IL-17 levels were higher and lung function was worse in the mild, moderate and severe groups compared to the control group. In addition, patients in the moderate and severe groups had higher peripheral blood NE and IL-17 levels but poorer lung function profiles compared to the mild group.Patients in the moderate and severe groups had poor asthma control and generally lower ACT scores than the mild group.IL-17 was positively correlated with NE and IgE(r=0.828,0.0.402,P=0.000,0.028),and IL-17 was negatively correlated with EOS,FEV1,FVC,FEV1/FVC,and PEF%(r=-0.010,-0.768,-0.744,-0.714,-0.711).Conclusion: The more severe the disease, the worse the pulmonary function, the higher the expression of IL-17 in serum, the higher the degree of airway inflammation, and the higher the expression of neutrophils in moderate and severe asthma, which provides a new vision for clinicians to treat moderate and severe asthma in the future.
