| Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of bandage contact lens on ocular surface state after combined operation of glaucoma and cataract. Methods: A total of 68 patients(68 eyes)with glaucoma who underwent combined operation of glaucoma and cataract at the Glaucoma Center of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University from January 2022 to December 2022 were randomly divided into two groups: the bandage contact lens group and the control group. The patients in the bandage contact lens group wore bandage contact lens for 2 weeks after operation, while the patients in the control group didn’t.The ocular surface disease index(OSDI)score, best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure(IOP),tear meniscus height(TMH),first noninvasive breakup time of tear film(NIBUTf),average noninvasive breakup time of tear film(NIBUTav),the fluorescein breakup time of tear film(FBUT),corneal fluorescein staining(CFS)score and Schirmer I test were performed before surgery(baseline),2 weeks and 4 weeks after operation. We compared the difference of these parameters between the bandage contact lens group and the control group,as well as between pre-operation and post-operation in the same group.SPSS 26.0was used for statistical analysis of the data. Results: The results of FBUT,NIBUTf,NIBUTav,TMH and CFS scores in the bandage contact lens group were better than those in the control group at 2 and 4 weeks after operation.OSDI scores were lower than that of control group and IOP was higher than that of control group at 2 weeks after operation. The results of Schirmer I test were higher than those in the control group at 4 weeks after operation. There was no statistical difference in BCVA between the two groups at 2 weeks and 4 weeks after operation. In the control group, except for post-operative results of Schirmer I test, which were not statistically different from those before operation, and CFS scores, which were lower than those before operation, the other parameters indicated that the degree of ocular surface disease was increased after operation. In the bandage contact lens group, except that the OSDI scores and NIBUTf were higher than the pre-operative level at 4 weeks after operation, the performance of other ocular surface disease related parameters was better than the pre-operative level at 2weeks and 4 weeks after operation.BCVA and IOP in both groups were better than those before operation. Conclusions: The combined operation of glaucoma and cataract may cause some damage to the ocular surface. The bandage contact lens can improve the ocular surface state of patients after the combined operation. |
