Research background and purpose:Myopia is a very common eye condition that has recently surpassed all others as the most common eye condition in the world, with its incidence rising yearly. The primary method of correcting myopia in recent years has been corneal refractive surgery, because of advancements in technology and tools. The safety and effectiveness of femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis(FS-LASIK)have improved, and there is rising concern about how patients’ post-operative visual function will be affected. Before and after refractive surgery, binocular visual function can be assessed using a variety of techniques. In this work, the binocular visual function of FS-LASIK patients was assessed both before and after surgery using a new eye-tracking-based 3D visual inspection and training interactive system. In order to find correlations and establish a foundation for clinical examination and training, this will serve as a platform for investigating the relationship between myopia and binocular visual function as well as analyzing binocular visual function in post-operative corneal refractive surgery patients.Materials and Methods:This study used an interactive system for 3D visual inspection and training based on eye tracking developed by the National Engineering Research Centre for Healthcare Appliances of Guangdong Province. The study population was selected from 59 patients(118 eyes)who underwent femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis(FS-LASIK)at the Ophthalmic Myopia Centre of Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, and who were seen at the hospital from July 2021 to May 2022,after completion of routine examinations(optometry, intraocular pressure, fundus photography, etc.),and with the patient’s informed consent,a naked-eye3 D stereoscopic display was used to The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital.Results:1.Preoperative abnormalities were found in perceptual eye position, gaze stability, suppression, and stereopsis, with the highest rate of abnormalities in gaze stability and a decrease in all visual function abnormalities after surgery compared to the preoperative period.2.The mean values of perceptual eye position levels showed a decreasing trend before surgery,1 day after surgery,10 days after surgery,1 month after surgery, and 3months after surgery. In addition, the results of the comparison between the postoperative time points and the preoperative time points showed that the differences between 1 month after surgery and 3 months after surgery and the preoperative time points were statistically significant(p<0.05).3.The mean values for the level of stability of gaze showed a decreasing trend before surgery,1 day after surgery,10 days after surgery,1 month after surgery, and 3 months after surgery. In addition, the comparison between the postoperative time points and the preoperative time points showed that the differences between 10 days after surgery,1month after surgery, and 3 months after surgery were statistically significant(p<0.05).4.The preoperative high spatial frequency suppression was higher than the low spatial frequency suppression, and the mean value of low spatial frequency suppression level showed a decreasing trend before surgery,1 day after surgery,10 days after surgery,1 month after surgery and 3 months after surgery. The mean high spatial frequency inhibition level showed a decreasing trend before surgery,1 day after surgery,10 days after surgery,1 month after surgery, and 3 months after surgery, and the results of the comparison between the postoperative time points and the preoperative time points showed that the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).5.At different spatial frequencies, more than half of the preoperative binocular suppression was present, with a few severe binocular imbalances(monocular suppression). The proportion of the no suppression category gradually increased postoperatively, and the proportion of each suppression category(intermittent suppression, alternating suppression, monocular suppression)decreased significantly, and monocular suppression disappeared by 1 day postoperatively.6.The preoperative stereopsis was abnormal to varying degrees, with the highest rate of static stereopsis abnormalities. The rate of stereopsis abnormalities(except for wide stereopsis)showed a significant decrease before surgery,1 day after surgery,10 days after surgery,1 month after surgery, and 3 months after surgery. The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05)for dynamic stereopsis at 1 day,1 month and 3months postoperatively compared to preoperative, statistically significant(P<0.05)for static stereopsis at 3 months postoperatively compared to preoperative, statistically significant(P<0.05)for color stereopsis at 1 day,10 days,1 month and 3 months postoperatively compared to preoperative, and statistically significant(P<0.05)for crowded stereopsis at 10 days postoperatively compared to preoperative. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05)at 10 days postoperatively compared to preoperatively, and the difference in contour integration stereopsis was statistically significant(P<0.05)at 3 months postoperatively compared to preoperatively. Conclusions:Myopic patients with preoperative abnormalities in all visual functions, with varying degrees of improvement in all visual functions(except for wide-range stereopsis)after surgery. We believe that FS-LASIK surgery improves visual acuity while affecting some of the patient’s visual functions, improves visual acuity, corrects refractive aberrations, improves fusion, promotes the formation of stereoscopic vision, reduces binocular imbalance, and improves brain control of the eye.
