Objective: To observe the clinical effect of scalp acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture on cognitive impairment after stroke, with the goal of discovering a straightforward,easy-to-utilize,and effective treatment method for cognitive impairment after stroke, which would provide a theoretical foundation for early intervention, promote the complete rehabilitation of limbs and psychological functions, and enhance the quality of life. Methods: The Affilaited Hospital of Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, admitting 72 poststroke cognitively impaired patients, divided them into two groups based on a random number table. The treetment group(36 of them)underwent scalp acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture, while the control group(36 of them)received routine acupuncture.Patients from both groups underwent a single course of treatment,(4 weeks being the length of the course),which was conducted daily,6 days a week, and 1 day off. Before and after treatment, the scores of MMSE,Mo CA and ADL were measured to observe the improvement of patients’ cognitive and self-care level before and after acupuncture intervention, and the results were collected, sorted and statistically processed to build a database to better evaluate the effect of acupuncture treatment.By comparing the symptoms of the two groups of patients, the effect was evaluated. Results: 1.Compreion prior to treatment: baseline data for sex, age, disease course, and education level did not show statistical signifieance between the 2 groups;PreTreatment Comperison,MMSE,Mo CA and ADL scores of the two groups were measured,P>0.05,which was comparable.2.Comparison of curative effect: After a course of treatment, the curative effect of the treatment group is obviously better than that of the control group, with the total effective rates of 88.23% and 73.52% respectively,P<0.05,and the statistical analysis results show that the difference between the two groups is significant.3.Comparison of MMSE and Mo CA scores: Comparisons between pre-and posttreatment improved patient scores(P < 0.05),between the pre-treatment and post-treatment difference groups and between the post-treatment groups with significant differences. Thus, both therapies have the potential to improve cognitive function in patients with cognitive impairment after stroke, and scalp acupuncture in combination with electroacupuncture outperforms the control group.4.ADL score comparison: The two groups did not differ significantly pre-and postintervention. However, there were significant pre-and post-treatment differences between the 2 groups(P<0.05).Suggesting that acupuncture may improve patients’ ability to selfmanage. Conclusion: Scalp acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture and routine acupuncture can treat cognitive impairments after stroke, which may improve patients’ cognitive ability and ability to live daily, and has a high safety profile. The overall effect suggests that scalp acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture is more efficacious.Completion of this project provides a foundation for scalp acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture for the treatment of cognitive impairment after stroke, which has some scientific importance and application value.
