Objective:To understand the status quo of knowledge, attitude and practice of gallstone and fatty liver in Uygur population in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps; To evaluate the effect of health education intervention on gallstone and fatty liver in Uygur population in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.Methods:(1)From June to July 2019,the 51st Regiment of the Third Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, where Uygur residents account for more than 90 percent, was selected as the research site through the typical sampling method.Using the random cluster sampling method,6 Uygur companies of the 51st Regiment were selected and randomly divided into the intervention group(11,12,13 companies)and the control group(2,6,8 companies). For the baseline survey,1612 and 744 participants in the gallstone intervention and control groups, respectively, and 971 and 859 participants in the fatty liver sample were included. For the outcomes survey,799 and 580 participants in the gallstone intervention and control groups, respectively, and 836 and 706 participants in the fatty liver sample were included.(2)Conduct questionnaire surveys, physical and ultrasound examinations, and blood sample collection through on-site face-to-face approach. The intervention group conducted a two-year health education intervention on gallstones and fatty liver, including promoting and popularizing knowledge about gallstones and fatty liver, guiding low-fat diet, exercising and other lifestyle behaviors, holding health lectures, posting wall posters, and distributing promotional materials such as picture albums. The control group received no intervention.(3)The effect of health education intervention was evaluated by analyzing the changes of knowledge, attitude and practice levels of gallstone and fatty liver before and after the intervention;SPSS 26.0 software was used for statistical analysis, continuous variables were described by x±s,and comparison between groups was conducted by t test. The rate or percentage of categorical variables was described, and theχ~2test was used for comparison between groups.Results:(1)There were no significant differences in gallstone knowledge, attitude, practice scores and their total scores between the intervention and control groups before intervention(P>0.05);After intervention, the scores of knowledge, attitude, practice and total scores of KAP were(1.53±2.21)、(0.98±1.35)、(0.52±1.08)and(3.02±4.23),respectively.They were higher than those of the control group(0.88±1.53)、(0.61±1.04)、(0.30±0.92)and(1.79±2.89),the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).(2)Before intervention, there was no statistical significance in the overall awareness rate of gallstone knowledge, attitude recognition rate and practice formation rate between the intervention group and the control group(P>0.05).After intervention, the overall knowledge, attitude and practice formation rates of the Uygur rural residents in the intervention group were 12.6%,14.0%and 7.4%,respectively increased by6.4%,6.6%and 4.4%compared with before intervention, and higher than 7.4%,8.6%and 4.3%of the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).(3)Before the intervention, there was no significant difference between the intervention group and the control group in the fatty liver knowledge, attitude, practice scores and total scores of Uyghur rural residents(P>0.05);After the intervention, the scores of fatty liver knowledge, attitude, practice and their total scores of residents in the intervention group were(3.26±2.44),(1.74±0.99),(0.75±0.72)and(5.76±2.44)respectively,which were higher than those of residents in the control group(2.52±1.97),(1.33±1.00),(0.54±0.76)and(4.39±3.38),and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).(4)Before the intervention, there were no significant differences in the overall knowledge, attitude and practice formation rates of fatty liver between the intervention group and the control group(P>0.05);After the intervention, the overall knowledge, attitude and practice formation rates of the Uygur rural residents in the intervention group were 25.1%,34.8%and 14.4%,respectively increased by 7.7%,10.5%and 5.7%compared with before intervention, and higher than 19.4%,26.6%and 10.3%of the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusions:(1)The knowledge, attitude and practice of Uyghur population in rural areas of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps are low on gallstones and fatty liver. It is necessary to carry out health education and intervention on gallstones and fatty liver.(2)Health education intervention focusing on low-fat diet, exercise and weight loss can improve the knowledge, attitude and practice of gallstones and fatty liver among Uyghur in rural areas of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.(3)The knowledge awareness rate, attitude recognition rate, practice formation rate and knowledge, attitude and practice scores of the intervention group were improved and higher than those of the control group.
