Chinese Version Of Nursing Students’ Perceptions Of Clinical Stressors Scale And Its Initial Application To Practicing Nursing Students

Objective1.To introduce the Nursing Students’Perceptions of Clinical Stressors Scale(NSPCSS),Chineseize and revise it with our local culture,and test its reliability in a population of practicing nursing students.2.To understand the current status of clinical stressors among nursing students and analyze their influencing factors,as well as their relationship with general self-efficacy.Methods1.Chinese translation of the scale and reliability testing:Based on Brislin’s model,the original scale was translated back and forth,and cross-cultural adaptation was carried out by the original author consultation and the expert consultation.A total of 586 nursing students from two tertiary hospitals in Hohhot were selected to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the scale,and item analysis was used to test the discrimination of the items of the Chinese version of the Clinical Stressor Perception Scale for Nursing Students,as well as to test the reliability(internal consistency and retest reliability)and validity(content validity,structural validity and calibration correlation validity)of the scale.2.Preliminary application of the scale:To facilitate the selection of 224 intern nursing students from two tertiary hospitals in Hohhot as the study subjects,a self-administered general information questionnaire,the Chinese version of the Perceived Clinical Stressors Scale for Nursing Students,a general self-efficacy scale were used to investigate the current situation of clinical stress among intern nursing students and to analyze its influencing factors.Results1.Through Chineseization and culture adjustment,the Chinese version of Nursing Students’Clinical Stressor Perception Scale was found to contain 30 items,the correlation coefficient and total score of each item were above 0.6(P<0.001),and all the items in this scale were above 3.0(P<0.001).The overall Cronbach’sαof the Chinese version of the Clinical Stressor Perception Scale for Nursing Students was 0.939,and the Cronbach’sαfor each dimension was 0.779-0.889;the retest reliability was 0.878.The Content Validity Index(I-CVI)was0.83-1.00 for each entry,and Content Validity Index(S-CVI)for the Scale Level was0.967,obtained by Exploratory Factor Analysis,which accounted for 62.347%,the results of the validation factor analysis showed that the loadings of the factors were good,with X~2/df of1.134,RMSEA of 0.038,GFI of 0.867,CFI of 0.958 and IFI of 0.959;the validity coefficient of the calibration correlation was 0.363.2.The results of the current survey using the Chinese version of the Perceived Clinical Stressors Scale for Nursing Students showed that the scores of the inefficient clinical education program dimension were(1.99±0.68),the inappropriate clinical environment dimension were(2.02±0.66),the limited clinical competence dimension of the teaching staff were(2.10±0.60),the insufficient knowledge and skills dimension were(2.11±0.81),inappropriate behavior of the lead teacher dimension score(2.15±0.55),worry about the characteristics of nursing work dimension score(2.25±0.65),and total scale score(2.09±0.53).3.The results of multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed that monthly per capita family income,cumulative time spent in internship,internship department,education,way of choosing nursing specialty,and age were the influencing factors of the perceived clinical stressors scale for nursing students in Chinese version,explaining a total of 42.9%of the variance.4.There was a negative correlation between the general self-efficacy and the clinical stress of nursing students.Conclusion1.The reliability of the Chinese version of the Perceived Clinical Stressors Scale for Nursing Students is good and can be applied to assess the current situation of clinical stressors among nursing students in China.2.The clinical stressors of intern nursing students are at a moderate level and should be of concern;easy coping style,monthly per capita family income,cumulative time in internship,internship department,general self-efficacy,and choice of nursing specialty are the influencing factors of nursing students’clinical stress,and nursing educators and nursing managers should pay attention to nursing students’physical and mental health to maintain their stress at an appropriate level,improve the quality of clinical internship,and promote the development of nursing profession.promote the development of the nursing profession.
