Objective:To investigate the effects of sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia and propofol intravenous anesthesia on electroencephalogram(EEG)in patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness during perioperative period. Methods:This was a prospective,randomized,controlled,single-blind study.Twenty patients with chronic disorders of consciousness who were scheduled for short-course spinal cord stimulation were randomly divided into two groups: sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia group(n=10)and propofol intravenous anesthesia group(n=10).The changes of whole brain electrical activity before, during and after anesthesia were recorded by a 19-channel electroencephalogram(EEG)device. The differences of EEG characteristics between the two groups were compared by calculating the power spectrum, entropy and complexity index of EEG.Results:There was no significant difference in the power spectrum of EEG under anesthesia between the two groups(P > 0.05).The δ power increased and the θ,β and γ power decreased in both groups. After anesthesia, the sevoflurane group had more θ,α,β fast wave activity and less δ slow wave activity than the propofol group(P < 0.05).The area under the ROC curve of EEG indicators to distinguish awake and anesthesia states was as follows: displacement entropy(AUC: frontal lobe 0.845> parietal lobe 0.815>occipital lobe 0.805> central area 0.781);Permutation Lempel-Ziv complexity(AUC:frontal lobe 0.845> parietal lobe 0.811> occipital lobe 0.793> central region 0.781).Conclusion:Sevoflurane and propofol have similar effects on brain electrical activity in p Do C patients under anesthesia, but sevoflurane group had better electrical performance after recovery than propofol group.EEG monitoring is of great significance to evaluate the state of consciousness during general anesthesia. The ratio of fast and slow wave power, displacement entropy, and displacement Lempel-Ziv complexity as EEG indicators to describe the depth of anesthesia show strong applicability in patients with p Do C.The displacement entropy and displacement Lempel-Ziv complexity of the frontal lobe have the best ability to distinguish awake from anesthesia.
