| Objectives: The present study had two primary objectives.Firstly, the “Ability Assessment for the Elderly"(AAE)score was used to assess the level of comprehensive ability of the elderly in the Longyang District of Baoshan City. The degree of disability and the factors related to these disabilities were analyzed.Secondly, the inter RAI-LTCF was also assessed for these elders;and the consistency or variability between these two scores for choosing the optimal functional assessment tool for the elderly population in aged-care facilities. Methods:Data were collected between June 2021 and December 2021 from 4aged-care facilities in the Longyang District of Baoshan City.A total of 210 elderly adults were included in this study. Both the AAE and inter RAI-LTCF were assessed in every subject. The degree of disability in the elderly, factors related to these disabilities, and the consistency/ variability between these two tools were compared and analyzed.Results:1.The mean age in the 4 aged-care facilities in the Longyang District of Baoshan City were 75.17±9.28 years.More than 36.67% elderly were older than 80 years and more than 25.24% were widowed.More than 96.67% of them with chronic diseases(average 3.81 types). The highest prevalence include hypertension, digestive systemdisease, cardiovascular system disease, sleep disorder, stroke, diabetes, osteoarthrosis, prostatic hyperplasia, lung disease, and urinary system disease. Moreover, more than 67.14% elderly adults taking one or multiple types of medications.2.The disability degree of ADL,cognitive, depression, aggressive behavior, sensory perception, communication, and social participation in elderly adults in aged-care facilities were mainly adjudicated as mild disabilities. Most of the final ability levels in elderly adults were mild(54.28%)and only 2.68% were adjudicated as intact.3.There were some different between the Elderly Competency Assessment and the inter RAI-LTCF scale about the object, content, purpose, time, and application of assessment results.4.The consistency test showed that there were highly concordant between these two assessment tools about ADL and aggressive behavior;a moderate concordant between cognitive grade, risk of depression, and level of social participation;the final ability level and level of pressure also showed a moderate concordant.5.The common chronic disease in these elderly adults was related to some disease that could limit their motion. However, the scale of AAE lacks the items about the pressure in which inter RAI-LTCF was included. Conclusions: 1.A total of 97.14% of elderly adults in aged-care facilities in the Longyang District of Baoshan City were adjudicated as mild disabilities.2.The dementia and mental diseases were main factors related to degree of disability in the elderly adults.3.Both of the AEE and inter RAI-LTCF were utility to assess the function disability of elderly population in aged-care facilities.4.The inter RAI-LTCF seems more wider coverage and more real response for the level of elderly adults comprehensive ability. |
