On February 10,2023,the State Council released the Implementation Plan for the Major Project of Revitalizing the Development of Chinese Medicine, which states that Chinese medicine is an important health, economic, scientific and technological, cultural and ecological resource in China.Academic journals of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)are important and unique science and technology journals in China,as well as an important part of Chinese medical academic resources. They shoulder the heavy responsibility of flourishing the development of TCM academic sciences. How to run academic journals of TCM is a major problem faced by both academia and TCM community. For journals, obtaining high-quality manuscript sources is the primary task to improve the quality of journals, and it is necessary to understand the author’s research trends and submission needs. For authors, academic journals are scientific research platforms to carry out academic exchanges and publish their research results. They want to know the idea of running academic journals of traditional Chinese medicine and the requirements for the use of manuscripts,so as to improve the utilization efficiency of the results. This issue has been indicated in the annual submission guidelines of general journals, and most authors can understand it.In terms of journals,it is worth thinking about the motivation of authors to contribute, what expectations they have for journals, how to stimulate authors’ creative enthusiasm, expand the group of authors, and improve the quantity and quality of manuscripts. Therefore, the analysis of the factors influencing the authors’ choice of target journals can provide ideas and directions for the academic journals to expand the source of manuscripts and improve the quality of the journals. There are few existing studies that focus on authors’ willingness to submit papers, and there are few relevant literatures, even fewer studies on the identification of factors affecting authors’ willingness to submit papers in academic journals of traditional Chinese medicine.Based on this, the author group of academic journals of traditional Chinese medicine is taken as the research object, and the influencing factors of authors’ willingness to contribute to academic journals of TCM are studied in this paper.Based on attribution theory, the influential factors are divided into three parts:journal factor, author factor and environmental factor.By referring to relevant research results, the journal factor is extracted into three dimensions: perceived behavioral control, perceived cost and review fairness. The environmental factors are summarized as subjective norms, and author factors are extracted into two dimensions, journal preference and performance expectation.Based on this, six hypotheses are proposed to influence authors’ willingness to submit papers, and a model of influencing factors is constructed.Through questionnaire survey,272 valid questionnaires were collected, sample descriptive statistics and reliability and validity test were carried out on the valid questionnaires, sample data were analyzed and processed by structural equation model, and empirical research on the research model and hypothesis was carried out to draw research conclusions. The empirical results show that subjective norms, performance expectations, review fairness and journal preference have significant positive effects on authors’ willingness to contribute, while perceived cost negatively affects authors’ willingness to contribute. However, the empirical analysis of this study does not prove that perceived behavioral control has an effect on authors’ willingness to submit papers.According to relevant research conclusions, this paper finally puts forward suggestions on attracting authors to TCM academic journals from three aspects: optimizing authors’ contribution experience, expanding publicity, and attracting authors’ contributions through strong relationships,as well as suggestions on improving authors’ success rate from three parts: selection of articles, journal selection, and contribution strategy.
