The Analysis Of Historical Sources In Tongzhi Jinshi Lue Of Zheng Qiao

Zheng Qiao(郑樵)is a a well-known historian and philologist who was born in the Southern Song Dynasty.He created a volume called Jinshi Lue(金石略)in Tong Zhi(通志),witch is written by him.Also,he regarded bronze and epigraphic materials as the same height as historical documents.He was the first person who written a journal of bronze and epigraphic materials and included it into the biographical general history.This paper mainly adopts methods of document collation and textual research to analyze the influence on Zheng Qiao by the ethos of epigraphic study in the Song Dynasty and discovering the significance and contribution of Tong Zhi Jinshi Lue in the history and the study of epigraphy.In the first chapter,by discussing Zheng Qiao’s life and friends as the background of written Tong Zhi,we could analyze Zheng Qiao’s historical ideology and the content of Jinshi Lue.In the second chapter,from the perspective of the development of Chinese epigraphy,the author discusses researches and historical documents of bronze and epigraphic materials before the Southern Song Dynasty,trying hard to analyze bronze and epigraphic materials and historical documents that Zheng Qiao might reached.Further more,this paper discusses sources of historical materials referenced by Jinshi Lue,and discovering the historical materials that may be referred to in Jinshi Lue in two parts:Zheng Qiao’s notes and inferences of later scholars.Finally,by comparing other catalogued works in Tong Zhi,such as Yiwen Lue(艺文略)and Tupu Lue(图谱略)with Jinshi lue,this paper analyzes Zheng Qiao’s methods of using historical materials.From the perspective of scholars’attention to historical materials and the identification of the value of bronze and epigraphic materials in the Song Dynasty,the third chapter summarizes the historical ideology reflected in Zheng Qiao’s Jinshi Lue to explore the influence of Jinshi Lue on later generations.
