| Donald Judd is an American artist and critic of the 20 th century.Judd has a background in philosophy and art history,and his writings can reflect his creative ideas and thoughts.He wrote the article "Specific Objects" in 1964 and published it in1965,proposing the concept of "specific object".In this article,Judd made some new points.Although Judd’s earliest artistic practice was painting,he later completely abandoned expression through painting and comprehensively turned to what he called "three-dimensional work".The thinking and ideas behind this can be found in the words of this article.Looking at the artworks of Judd throughout his creative career,we can see the richness of the language of his artworks,which reflects his thinking and exploration of issues such as space,materials,and colors.Judd’s use of industrial materials such as Plexiglas,concrete,aluminum,plywood,and Cor-ten steel forms the unique visual language of his artworks.The presentation of the color of these materials,or the artificial coloring,reflects Judd’s exploration of color.This thesis attempts to explore the relationship between Judd’s artistic concept and the visual language of his artworks from the concept of "specific object" proposed by Judd himself."Box",as Judd’s iconic work form,is a result rather than a cause.His insights and reflections on artistic creation involved behind this are the main issues explored in this article. |
