A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Super King Air 300 Series Maintenance Training Manual (Chapter 21)

The report is an English-Chinese translation practice report on Super King Air 300 Series Maintenance Training Manual(Chapter 21: Air Conditioning).This report takes Newmark’s Text Type Theory as the guidance theory and analyzes the translation difficulties of aircraft maintenance manual(AMM)in terms of vocabulary,syntax and text.Combined with specific cases,the report summarizes the translation strategies that can be used for reference in the translation of AMM,hoping to provide reference for later translators’ translation strategies,help them understand the guiding role of Newmark’s Text Type Theory in the translation practice of AMM,so as to improve the translation quality of AMM in the industry.Firstly,the significance of this translation practice report,the content characteristics of the translation task,and the article structure of this report are stated,so as to present the content and significance of this report more clearly.The second chapter describes the translation process in detail from three aspects: pre-translation preparation,translating process and post-translation proofreading.Preparation before translation includes professional background learning,guiding theory selection,term search and reference to parallel texts.While translation,formulate and strictly implement the translation task schedule,continuously improve translation standardization and establish a glossary.Constantly proofreading after translation is adopted to improve the quality of translation.The third chapter briefly introduces the theoretical basis of this report – Newmark’s Text Type Theory.Combined with specific cases and the guidance of Newmark’s Text Type Translation Theory,the fourth chapter explains the difficulties and solutions during the translation process from the lexical,syntactic and textual aspects,and summarizes the translation strategies of AMM.The fifth chapter finally summarizes the translation practice,and discusses the gains,enlightenment and shortcomings in the translation task,so as to provide experience for the translator’s subsequent translation practice.
