Research On The View Of "Vulgarity" And "Elegance" In The Restoration And Binding Of Huang Pilie’s Ancient Books And The Practice Of" Repair Elegantly"

Huang pilie(1763-1825),a native of Suzhou,Jiangsu Province,is one of the most famous book collectors in the prosperous Qianlong and Jiaqing periods.He is also a famous philologist.He is good at making inscriptions and postscripts for book collection.According to statistics,there are 855 ancient books on his inscriptions and postscripts."Huang Ba" describes a wide range of contents,including the order of versions of ancient books,the number of chapters,the similarities and differences of sound and training,the increase and loss of calligraphy and painting,the source and flow of giving and receiving,the origin and end of copying,the density and breadth of lines,as well as the comments on the "fine and coarse decoration" of ancient books repaired by predecessors.A large number of comments on "vulgar work" and "ancient elegance" retained in "Huang Ba" intuitively reflect Huang pilie’s more comprehensive attitude and "evaluation criteria" on the merits of predecessors’ restoration and binding of ancient books;"Huang Ba" also has records of the reasons and techniques of self-study of more than 200 ancient books,reflecting Huang pilei’s "aesthetic standard" for the ancient books he repaired.Firstly,this paper combs the contents related to the restoration and binding of ancient books from the inscriptions and postscripts of Huang pilie’s 855 books,and comprehensively and systematically summarizes the postscript contents of Huang pilie’s comments on the restoration and binding skills of previous ancient books;Using the "double evidence method",combined with the physical investigation of the existing "Huang Xiu" ancient books at home and abroad,and taking the restoration techniques of the twelve volumes of Kong’s engraved copy "Guang Ji of the ancestral court of Kong" in the first year of naimazhen in Mongolia(1242)in the National Library of China as an example,this paper analyzes the reasons for the restoration of Huang Pi lie’s ancient books,"elegant repair" techniques and features,and reveals the evaluation criteria for the restoration and binding of Huang Pi lie’s ancient books with the words "vulgar" and "elegant";Finally,apply the theoretical research to practical operation,imitate Huang’s "elegant repair" technique,and repair the six volumes of Yuanheng therapeutic horse collection,which is thread-bound edition in the Qing Dynasty,in order to more fully show the "vulgar" and "elegant" view of Huang pilie’s restoration and binding of ancient books.Through the first-hand historical materials excavated,this paper shows the appearance of China’s ancient book restoration and binding during the Qianlong,Jiaqing and Daoguang periods of the Qing Dynasty,and shows that Huang pilei has advanced ancient book restoration and binding skills and more comprehensive evaluation standards,which will enrich the theoretical system,evaluation system and skill history of China’s ancient book restoration and binding,as well as the inheritance and innovation of contemporary ancient book protection and restoration skills and the revision of ancient book restoration and binding evaluation standards,It has important reference significance and reference value.
