A Report On Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting Of 2020 Global Energy Interconnection(asia)conference

Interpretation in the energy sector is of great significance to international exchanges in the energy sector.This paper analyzes the interpretation of the 2020 Global Energy Interconnection(Asia)Conference using Ronald Langacker’s Construal Theory.It analyzes typical cases in the interpretation process and applies the Construal Theory to energy interpretation,aiming to provide a reference for future interpreting practice.The 2020 Global Energy Interconnection(Asia)Conference was held from November 1th to 4th,2020.Government officials,institutional leaders and organization representatives from around the world gathered in Beijing to discuss energy development issues.The conference achieved many outcomes and provided important reference for energy development.Scholars study interpretation from many perspectives,but the research from the perspective of the Construal Theory is rare.In Foundations of Cognitive Grammar,Langacker proposes that “construe” can be described from the following five aspects:background,scope,perspective,prominence and specificity.“Background” means that expressions invoke background knowledge as the basis for their understanding.“Scope”refers to domains an expression actually evokes and utilizes as the basis for its meaning.“Perspective” refers to the perspective one chooses to describe and cognize an object.“Prominence” means that language structure displays numerous kinds of asymmetries that are reasonably considered matters of prominence.“Specificity” refers to the level of precision and detail at which a situation is characterized.Interpretation is also a kind of “construal,so the Construal Theory can effectively guide to interpreting.This report adopts the methods of case study and comparative analysis,finding that the Construal Theory can effectively guide the interpretation in the energy sector.The application of this theory can help the interpreter effectively deal with vocabulary,sentence patterns and other problems encountered in the process of interpretation.The communication between speakers and the audience can be further promoted.This report analyzes typical cases in the task,in order to provide a reference for researches of the energy interpretation.
