| Darius Milhaud is a representative of the French neo-classical school and one of the most prolific composers of the 20 th century. The richness of his experience has given his works a deep and diverse appeal.Milhaud’s skill in composing in multiple keys and the integration of this modern technique with the spirit of classicism, romanticism and different national styles provided new ideas for the development of this technique, and the piano suite "Saudades Do Brasil" is a masterpiece of this style. The Suite for piano consists of twelve short, delicate and characterful pieces, and is one of the most significant piano pieces by Milhaud. In this work,Milhaud’s mastery of polytonal compositional techniques is demonstrated to the fullest extent, and he also combines dance rhythms, blues scales, ecclesiastical modulations, and other characteristic musical materials to highlight the distinctiveness of this work.Through the analysis of Mio’s "Recollections of Brazil" piano suite and the points to be noted in its performance, this paper shows the new musical ideas arising from the transition from neoclassical to modern music, providing a theoretical basis and a new perspective for understanding and interpreting the unique elements and connotations of Brazilian folk music in Mio’s piano works,as well as a certain guidance for players’ performance. |
