The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed that China should establish a more perfect social governance system in line with the requirements of the new era and improve China’s social governance system in line with China’s national conditions. In the official document No.20 issued by The State Council in 2015,The Measures for the Examination and Approval of the Planning for the Protection of Famous Historical and Cultural Cities,Towns,Villages and Blocks proposed to include the protection and planning of China’s historic and cultural streets in the general planning of cities. The long history of Zhanjiang is epitomized by Chikan Ancient Street. In 2022,Zhanjiang published the Protection,Development and Renewal Planning and Urban Design of Chikan Ancient Commercial Port Historical and Cultural Block(Draft),which further explored the space transformation, protection and upgrading of the historical and cultural block. The historic district carries the cultural changes of the city,is the recreation space to record the history, and is also the important place for contemporary residents to live. However,in the process of spatial reconstruction of the historic district,it will have a certain impact on all interest subjects in the historic district space, and cause a series of new social problems: Will the reconstruction of the historic district infringe the living and production space of the original residents? Is it difficult to govern the community during the reconstruction of historic district? Will cultural lag occur before and after the reconstruction of historic districts? How to realize the spatial justice of historic District? These questions remain unclear, and are what this article attempts to address. In this paper, the reconstruction of Chikan historic district is taken as the case study, and residents and communities in the historic district are mainly taken as the research objects.Based on the research methods of literature, field observation and interview, the field visit to Chikan historic district is made, and the space fragmentation scene in urgent need of reconstruction of the historic district is found.Through investigation and research,it is found that there are a series of social contradictions in the implementation of the historical district in the process of reconstruction, which mainly focus on the aspects of life production, community governance and cultural value. From the theoretical perspective of social space, the author deeply analyzes the causes of difficulties in the reconstruction of historical blocks, and tries to explore the path to realize spatial justice, hoping to provide relevant experience for Chikan historic blocks and other grassroots communities in governance and historical space reconstruction. This paper will be divided into six parts to expand the narrative. The first part is the introduction, including the research background, problems to be solved, research significance, research design and research innovation of this paper. It summarizes the value and protection of urban historical space at home and abroad, the alienation of historical space, the reconstruction of space alienation, the reconstruction of urban historic district from the perspective of space theory and other related documents and materials. The second part(the first chapter)describes the phenomenon of space fragmentation of historical blocks from the perspective of space representation in space production. The third part(the second chapter)introduces the conflicts with residents’ living space in the process of spatial reconstruction, including the living space invasion of original residents caused by the spatial reconstruction of blocks, the governance difficulty of historic blocks and the obstacles of residents’ cooperation, the cultural lag and passive participation of historic blocks residents. The fourth part(the third chapter)describes the causes of the difficulties in the process of spatial reconstruction, and concludes that the problems are caused by the imbalance of industrial structure in the economy, the game of interest subjects in governance, the contradictory demands of cultural protection and spatial justice. The fifth part(the fourth chapter)aims to realize the space justice, and puts forward the ways and methods to alleviate the space contradiction from the three aspects of production justice, governance justice and value justice. The sixth part is the conclusion,is the summary of this article.Through the sociological research on the spatial reconstruction of historical blocks, this paper hopes to provide beneficial reference for the reconstruction and spatial transformation of cultural and historical blocks in other regions.
