| Biological detection is an important component of biosecurity capabilities and has become an essential measure for maintaining biosafety by providing rapid early warning through early detection and sensing of biological threats.In recent years,the field of biological detection has been widely concerned and highly valued.The United Kingdom is an earlier builder of a national biodetection early warning system,and its research results can provide some inspiration and references for China to respond to biological threats and improve its biomonitoring system.This thesis is a translation practice report on sci-tech texts from English to Chinese.The number of characters in the target text is about 14,000.The source text is Blackett Review on Widearea Biological Detection,a translation task entrusted by GTCOM(Global Tone Communication Technology Co.,Ltd.).This text belongs to an informative text whose content is real,specific,scientific and objective.It contains a large number of technical terms in the fields of biology,physics and chemistry,with many long and complex sentences and passive sentences.Based on the above textual features,this translation practice is completed under the guidance of semantic translation and communicative translation.The translator classifies and summarizes the difficulties encountered in the translation process and puts forward the corresponding solutions from the lexical level,syntactic level,and discourse level.With communicative translation as the main theoretical basis,the translation techniques of diction and part-of-speech conversion at the lexical level are used to translate semi-technical words and nominalizations.At the syntactic level,the techniques of restructuring and voice shift are applied to translate long complex sentences and sentences with passive voice.At the discourse level,the techniques of reiteration and logic restructuring are adopted to achieve lexical cohesion and semantic coherence.Under the guidance of semantic translation,literal translation is used to translate technical terms at the lexical level.This translation practice enhances the translator’s ability to apply semantic translation and communicative translation to guide translation practice.Under the guidance of this theory,different translation techniques can be flexibly applied to solve difficulties in the translation process,thus the quality of translation can be improved.At the same time,the gains made in the translation practice are summarized in the report,which also provides some references for future translations of similar sci-tech texts. |
