A Report On The Translation Of Smart Assisted Living （Excerpts）

Smart Assisted Living belongs to the Computer Communications and Networks series,which provides readers with basic knowledge and the latest development in the field of smart home technology through a multidisciplinary integration and promotes the development of open smart home technology infrastructure.This is a translation report based on the translation of excerpts of Smart Assisted Living,which mainly describes the translation practice and process,discusses the translation problems through case analysis,and studies the translation skills used in the English-Chinese translation of sci-tech texts.Considering the text features of sci-tech texts,the original text belongs to informative texts.Thus the author adopted Newmark’s communicative translation theory to guide the translation process,with the aim to convey the information of the original text accurately and concisely and provide target readers with the same feelings as the original readers.This translation report is divided into five chapters.Chapter one consists of the introduction to the source text,the difficulties of the translation,the significance of the translation study,and the organization of the report.Chapter two describes the translation procedure that includes pre-translation,while-translation,and post-translation.Chapter three focuses on the theoretical framework that consists of a literature review,Newmark’s communicative translation theory and its guidance on the source text.Chapter four presents the analysis of the translation of Smart Assisted Living based on Newmark’s communicative translation theory.This chapter is mainly a case analysis of translation difficulties solved by the methods of compensation,omission,and shifts or transpositions.To be more specific,compensation mainly illustrates case analysis from two aspects: implicit compensation and explicit compensation.Omission mainly introduces case analysis from two aspects: omission for the grammatical meaning and omission for the rhetorical meaning.And the translation methods in terms of shifts or transpositions adopted in this translation practice include conversion of word class,conversion of voice,adjustment of syntactic structure,and division.Chapter five concludes the reflections on the translation practice and the limitations of this report.This translation report via a case analysis has proved the feasibility of Newmark’s communicative translation theory in English-Chinese sci-tech translation and has summed up the translation methods and skills that should be followed in the sci-tech translation.The author hopes that this translation practice can provide more knowledge and information for domestic readers,and this translation report can provide a reference for the translation of sci-tech texts.
