English writing is a complex process that involves cognitive and linguistic resources,which can fully reflect students’ comprehensive ability of language use.It can be found that students’ English writing lack of appropriate language,correct grammar and abundant content.When it comes to the English writing course,most of them show less interest in the class.Therefore,it is necessary to explore an effective English writing teaching method to solve this problem.With the development of Constructivism Theory and Social Interdependence Theory,collaborative writing has attracted the attention of teachers and researchers.In particular,the research results on the influence of collaborative writing on learners’ writing ability,the influencing factors of collaborative writing and collaborative writing supported by computer-mediated technology enrich the theoretical and practical basis of collaborative writing.Collaborative writing aims to create a learning group for students,allowing them to interact and negotiate at each stage of writing.Students jointly decide the content,language and structure of the composition,and finally collaborate to produce a written text.Numerous of scholars have reached an agreement that collaborative writing benefits language learning and writing ability by promoting deliberation on language form and meaning,encouraging learners to scaffold collectively,and facilitating reflection on the writing process.This study aims to apply collaborative writing teaching to English writing teaching,aiming at improving students’ English writing ability and their interest in English writing.More specifically,it addresses two research questions as follows:(1)What are the effects on students’ English writing ability by applying collaborative English writing teaching?(2)What are students’ learning attitudes towards the collaborative English writing teaching?On the basis of above-mentioned questions,action research is put into practice in the researcher’s class for 18 weeks.53 first-year students from a high school in Guangdong Province participate in this research.Questionnaire,test and interview are adopted to collect data.The data are analyzed by SPSS.26.After two rounds of action research on collaborative English writing teaching,the results show that:(1)Collaborative English writing teaching has a positive impact on the English writing ability of high school students,which is mainly reflected in their more accurate language expression,richer writing content and clearer composition structure.(2)Collaborative English writing teaching reduces students’ anxiety and promotes students’ interest in English writing.(3)Students hold a positive attitude towards collaborative English writing teaching and support teachers to apply collaborative English writing teaching to English writing teaching.Grounded on the findings,the pedagogical implications for adopting collaborative writing in English writing teaching in senior high school are discussed.It is expected to provide reference to English writing teaching.
