A Report On The Translation Practice Of Military Texts Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

The Roh Moo-hyun administration launched the Basic Plan for Defense Reform(2006-2020)after sweeping military reforms based on Korea’s fast-growing economy.Since then,successive governments have taken this as the blueprint for military reform and have made continuous adjustments in accordance with the actual situation.At the end of 2015,what was described as“China’s biggest military reform in 60 years” was launched.Analyzing and studying the military reform process of South Korea can provide valuable experience and lessons for our country.In addition,the ROK military is a key link in the ROK-US military alliance.Strengthening the study of the ROK military reform will help us more accurately grasp the development trend of the ROK military and predict the development trend of the ROK-US military alliance,so as to better analyze and evaluate the security situation on the Peninsula and maintain peace and stability in Northeast Asia.For this reason,the second chapter “The Trajectory of Military Reform in Korea”and the eighth chapter “The Future Direction of Military Reform in Korea”in the book Military Reform in Korea by retired Lieutenant General Jeong Lion-bong are selected for translation.The second chapter introduces the main contents of South Military Reform in Korea during the Roh Moo-hyun,Lee Myung-bak,Park Geun-hye and Moon Jae-in administrations,and makes an objective evaluation of the corresponding reform measures.The eighth chapter introduces the reasons for the success of military reform obtained by the author through the above argumentation to guide the future trend of military reform in Korea.The translation of the above two chapters can ensure the coherence and completeness of the corpus.That is to analyze the gains and losses of the military reform of the recent four South Korean governments,draw lessons from the successful factors of foreign military reform,and plan the future development blueprint of South Military Reform in Korea.Military Reform in Korea is a specialized military information text.One of the characteristics of informative text is to accurately convey the information contained in the text to the reader,which is similar to Skopos theory’s emphasis on “putting the communicative function of the translation in the first place”.Therefore,the author chooses Skopos theory as the guiding theory of translation,and pays attention to the realization of the three principles of Skopos theory in translation,namely,the skopos principle,the coherence principle and the fidelity principle,so as to ensure the accuracy and fluency of the translation.This translation practice report is divided into five parts: introduction,translation task introduction,translation process introduction,translation case analysis and conclusion.The firstchapter introduces the background and significance of the topic and the structure of the translation report.The second chapter introduces the translation text and translation difficulties.The third chapter is a brief introduction to the translation process,which mainly includes preparation before translation,execution in translation and subsequent proofreading.The fourth chapter is a case study,which is the core part of this report.Based on Skopos theory,it discusses in detail how to guide translation practice through theory from the perspective of vocabulary,sentence and text with the help of concrete example sentences.The fifth chapter is the conclusion part,which is the induction and summary of the translation practice,and expounds the harvest,deficiency and enlightenment.This translation practice has two purposes.The first is to provide readers in related fields with the latest reference materials related to the military reform in South Korea.The second is to use Skopos theory to explore how to solve the problems in the Korean-Chinese translation of informative military texts,so as to provide some reference for the translation practice of other military texts.
