Translation Strategies For Military Texts From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

In recent years,with the deepening of military exchanges,military affairs have aroused more attention among people,and many scholars in the relevant field of military theories have begun to contact the authentic foreign military materials and to translate English military texts,in order to serve the military learning,scientific research and teaching.As the text of my translation practice report,in terms of text type,"Special Forces Waterborne Operations" belongs to the military information-type text.For the translation of military texts,the accuracy and authenticity of the translated texts must be guaranteed.The differences between military texts and everyday language in terms of words,sentences and grammar pose a challenge to translators.The translator must master the relevant translation theories,strictly grasp the translation standards,flexibly use the translation strategies,and eliminate other factors so as to understand the text more accurately and complete the military text translation work successfully,in order to better serve the military cause of our nation.At present,the research done in the field of military text translation in China is still inadequate and there exist many difficulties in military English translation,which make,the study of military text translation very necessary and imperative.For example: the great number of military jargons,the complex sentence structures,the passive voice and the extensive use of nominalization structure,the logical professional knowledge,and so on.Based on the Skopos Theory,with the case study of chapter 5-7 of “Special Forces Waterborne Operations”,the author selects some typical sentences,analyzes some common translation difficulties,and probes into the translation skills of military text to summarize the corresponding strategies for the translation of military texts,aiming to contribute to the study of the translation of military texts.
