| This translation practice report is based on excerpts from Culture and Power in the Reconstitution of the Chinese Realm,200-600 published by the Harvard University Asia Center,which explores the historical development process of the ancient Chinese dynasties during specific periods.This translation practice will help Sinology lovers to understand the history of ancient Chinese dynasties in the eyes of Sinologists at home and abroad,and to interpret various factors in the process of Chinese history from a different perspective.In view of the complexity and difficulty of English Sinology text,the author completed this report from the perspective of Adaptation Theory,and adopted translation strategies such as back translation,inversion and free translation in the process of translation practice.Based on the version of more than 10,000 words,the author tries to explore the translation skills of English Sinology text and provide practical experience for the translation of historical subjects from Chinese.This translation practice is devoted to faithfully translating the source text,and keeping its style as much as possible on the basis of reasonable conversion of language forms.Through this translation practice,the author finds that overseas Sinology text are heterozygous,with both documentary feature of academic text and subjective feature of critical text.After completing this translation practice,the author comes to the conclusion that in order to achieve a high-quality translation of overseas Sinology text,translators should be aware of the uniqueness and complexity of overseas Sinology text.Not only should they own abundant Chinese culture to accurately translate proper terms back,but they also need to make the target texts have no translation cavity to present authentic and natural translations for readers. |
