Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Jamaica, the two countries have been consolidating and developing friendly cooperation in various fields, including politics, economy, and culture. To enable students to understand crosscultural communication from a foreign perspective and to promote people-to-people exchanges between China and Jamaica, the School of International Education of Guangxi Minzu University invited Jamille Chin, who works for the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica,to give a lecture on cross-cultural communication between China and Jamaica.Given the severe epidemic dynamics of COVID-19 at home and abroad, this lecture was held online. The interpreter has completed the unscripted interpretation of this online lecture. The report intends to analyze the transcribed text of this practice from the three perspectives of linguistic structural adaptation(discourse adaptation, syntactic adaptation and lexical adaptation)in adaptation theory, trying to study the efforts made by the translator in the adaptation of language structure in this interpretation task. The adaptation theory proposes that language use is a process of adaptation. In the process of language use, people are constantly making choices. The choice is only a means, and adaptation is the purpose as well as the result. The interpreter believes that in the interpreting process, interpreters reorganize the source language and output it in the form of the target language so as to serve as a bridge in communication.Choice and adaptation are the processes of source language reorganization. This practice report reflects the specific application of adaptation theory in interpreting, and analyzes how interpreters choose different words, syntax, and discourses to achieve adaptation at all levels of sentence structure in order to improve interpretation quality. It is hoped that it can provide reference for similar interpretation practices in the future. This report finds that, first,in the process of consecutive interpreting, interpreters need to maintain a strong sense of adaptation and constantly make language(lexical, syntactic, and discourse)choices in the dynamic process of interpretation.Second, when it comes to cross-cultural communication, interpreters need to know the extralinguistic knowledge of the topic in advance. This is particularly important for lexical adaptation.Third, there is an inextricable relationship between language proficiency and extralinguistic knowledge, both of which are related to the quality of consecutive interpreting.
