| Under the background of the post-pandemic period, the process of globalization is facing unprecedented resistance and obstacles, while teleworker collaboration is increasingly being attached importance as it may grow into a new “super driving force”of the digital economy.Build Better Teams: Creating Winning Teams in the Digital Age is a business and management text, which mainly introduces the building code for virtual teams in order to help them thrive in the current COVID-19 era.The report takes Chapter 7 of Build Better Teams: Creating Winning Teams in the Digital Age as the source text of translation practice.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s theory of functional equivalence and combined with the characteristics of the selected text, the translator explores corresponding translation strategies and methods in the process of dealing with different translation difficulties, aiming to maximize the realization of functional equivalence at the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels. As is presented in the report,in the process of translation, the translator encounters the following translation difficulties: at the lexical level, many terms, proper nouns, slang and metaphoric words whose semantics are closely related to the context may hinder the readers’ understanding;at the syntactic level, some nominal structures, passive sentences and complex sentences do not quite conform to the habits of the target language;and at the discourse level, the application of parallel structures and substitution parts make a certain impact on the cohesion and coherence of the text.Based on the deduction and analysis of specific cases and in the light of Nida’s theory of functional equivalence, the translator applies a variety of translation methods, such as annotation, literal translation, liberal translation, division and reorganization, conversion of part of speech and voice, maintenance of the parallel structure, explanation or repetition of substitution parts,in order to deal with different translation difficulties and to maximize the functional equivalence between the target text and the source text.It is also a sincere hope that the practical experience of this report can provide some help and reference for the E-C translation of business and management texts in the future. |
