With digital development driving changes in business models and China becoming an important market for brands to enter, marketers are always looking for the best ways to increase brand awareness and explore how to bring value to consumers in new ways.Yet research on different brand marketing approaches is relatively rare. Therefore, this report selects the E-C translation of the second chapter of the book The Sea We Swim In—How Stories Work in a Data-Driven World for study and analysis. The Sea We Swim In—How Stories Work in a Data-Driven World is a business work published by W.W Norton & Company Publishers in 2021.The book focuses on how different commercial brands can use the digital tools to build their strong brands and stand out from the crowd.Based on Reiss’ s text topology, the translator concludes that this book belongs to a content-oriented text, that is,an informative text, which emphasizes straightforward language without redundancy and aims to convey clear information. The translator is expected to ensure that the translation is appropriate to the reading preferences of the target language readers.Parenthesis is a distinguishing feature of the selected chapter, and numerous parentheses pose many obstacles for both translators and readers. On the basis of Newmark’s theory of communicative translation, the translator has read a lot of parallel texts and related materials to analyze parenthesis, thereby putting forward six major translation techniques, including retention, amplification, ellipsis, preposition, postposition, reorganization. To ensure that the content of the source text can be conveyed accurately and smoothly.
