A Report On C-E Translation Of Procurement Tender Documents From The Perspective Of Memes Of Translation

Since the reform and opening up,China has made great achievements in attracting foreign investment.Goods trading has become one of the main ways of project cooperation between domestic and foreign enterprises.As its transparency,fairness and formalization,tendering activity is an indispensable part of the cooperation process among enterprises.Therefore,the accurate translation of tender documents is an important prerequisite for the success of tendering activity between domestic and foreign enterprises.The text the author translated,Tender Documents for Project of Inclined Pipes Procurement for Sedimentation Tank of Yulu Water Plant and Inclined Pipes Backfilling for Sedimentation Tank of Jiazitang Water Plant,contains three parts: Tender Announcement,Instructions to Bidders,and Requirements of the Tendering Project.From the perspective of text type,the first two parts belong to expressive contract text,which emphasizes the authority of the original text,and the translation should be dominated by the system of the source language culture,so the translator should strive to make the source and target text equal in meaning and style.The third part belongs to informational technology text,aiming to transfer objective information to the readers.On the basis of conveying the content of the original text accurately and completely,the translator should,under the guidance of the cultural norms of the target language,adjust the expression style and structure as required,so that the target language readers’ understanding of the text is as similar as possible to that of the source language readers.Based on the memes of translation and from the aspects of meme genotype and meme phenotype,this report analyzes the translation strategy for typical words,sentences and paragraphs of expressive and informational texts by combining translation skills such as reversion,conversion,insertion,addition,subtraction and combination.The author finds that the replication and transmission of meme genotype is conducive to the spread and development of the source language meme in the target language environment,while that of meme phenotype helps the target readers to have the same reading experience as the source text readers,which fully confirms the memes of translation’s guiding significance for the translation strategy of procurement tender documents.
