A Chinese-English Translation Practice Report On Electroplating Autoline Operating Manual

With the rising of China’s mechanical manufacturing industry and the further deepening of trade globalization,the demand for English translation of mechanical operating manual is increasing.The quality of its translation is related to the operation safety of the product and the expansion of overseas market.Therefore,the translation research on this type of text is of great practical significance.This report is based on the Chinese-English translation practice of Electroplating Autoline Operating Manual.This translation project mainly introduces the specific information about the electroplating autoline,including the configuration structure,function,operation instructions and maintenance,etc.which contains a large number of technical terms and content with precise diction and compact language.And the readers of such texts are front-line operators,which requires the translation to be accurate,concise and readable.Therefore,according to the principle of “multi-dimensional adaptation and adaptive selection” in Eco-Translatology theory,the author analyzes textual features and some translation examples of the technology texts from three dimensions:linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension so as to verify the effective guidance of Eco-Translatology theory for scientific translation.It is hoped that this paper can further enrich the application of Eco-Translatology in scientific translation and provide reference for the author and other translators in their translation practice.The translation practice report is divided into four parts.The first part is a description of the translation task,which briefly introduces the background of the task,analyzes the characteristics of the translated text and the significance of the report.The second part is the translation process description,which introduces the detailed process of pretranslation preparation,translation process overview and translation text proofreading.In the third part,after explaining the core concepts and application research of EcoTranslatology theory,the problems discovered during the translation are divided into three categories in accordance with the three dimensions: linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension;and then the author analyzes the translated text from these three dimensions,so as to choose appropriate translation methods,such as subtraction,addition and restructuring,to solve problems.In the final part,the author summarizes the difficulties and gains in translation practice.
