A Report On Chinese-English News Translation From Tianjin University Website Under Guidance Of Newmark’s Translation Theory

With the deepening of globalization,the external publicity of universities has gradually integrated with the world,playing a key role in promoting the influence of Chinese universities and intercultural communication.As an important way of the external publicity,English website has a direct impact on the image expression and information exchange of universities.Therefore,it is crucial to improve the quality of translation to build a good external publicity website.This report focuses on six character news translation on Tianjin University’s official website.In the process of translation,the author comprehensively analyzes the text type,purpose of this translation,reader identity and features of news language based on Newmark Peter’s text typology,drawing a conclusion that this is an informative and vocative text.In accordance with Newmark Peter’s theory,text typology has an influence on translator’s choice of translation strategy,which means different tranalation strategies should be applied to different texts.Therefore,the author chooses specific translation techniques and methods to translate and analyze this news text under the guidance of communicative translation and semantic translation.There are four chapters in this translation report.The first chapter is mainly the description of the translation task,including the task background,requirments,and the characteristics of the source text.In the second chapter,there is the description of the translation process specifically composed of three parts,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and proofreading.In the third chapter,there is the analysis of translation cases.It inroduces Newmark Peter’s text typology and conducts analysis from lexical,syntactic and textual level by using communicative translation and semantic translation strategies.At the lexical level,the author analyzes the culture-loaded words and Chinese four-character structures by using literal translation with annotation and free translation to convey the meaning and achieve communicative purpose.At the syntactic level,the author uses techniques of omission,splitting and combination to conduct the translation analysis of compound sentences and running sentences.At the textual level,the author uses the methods of word order adjustment and information integration to optimize the logic of the translation.The fourth chapter is a summary of translation practice.The author organizes general idea of translation,the application value of translation techniques and reflects on the difficulties and shortcomings.This practice shows that the combination of communicative translation and semantic translation can effectively guide this news translation activity.
