A Report On The C-E Translation Of Informative Texts From The Perspective Of Function Plus Loyalty Principle

With the deepening of economic globalization,the number of English readers of international organizations are also growing with each passing day.Commissioned by the IAULS,the author translated informative texts such as investigation reports in the field of sociolinguistics,work report and conference minutes in this translation practice.Based on this practice,the author wrote this report on translation practice.Nord’s “function plus loyalty” theory involves two aspects.“Function” requires changes to certain language units that the original author wishes to remain intact.“Loyalty” emphasizes the interpersonal relationship between the target reader,original author,translator,and translation initiator.In order to convey information completely and accurately during translation,the author not only needed to make “functional” adjustments in sentence patterns and structures,but also needed to be “loyal” to the original text,the originator of the translation,and the recipient of the translation.Therefore,the author chose to use Nord’s “function plus loyalty” theory to guide this translation practice.In terms of specific translation methods,the author adopted translation methods that added components to clarify the meaning of the sentence,avoided repetition to achieve conciseness,conversion of part of speech to increase flexibility,word order adjustment to promote fluency,splitting and reorganization to make understanding easy,and conversion of active voice to passive voice emphasizing preciseness to achieve complete and accurate transmission of translation information,promote communication among internal members,and improve the translation quality of information texts.Through this translation practice,the author had a more comprehensive and thorough understanding of the function plus loyalty theory and had gained certain harvest and experience on the application of the function plus loyalty theory in translation practice.In addition,the author hoped that this translation practice report could provide reference and theoretically guided practical experience for translators of this type of text.
