Research On The Artistic Features And Performance Of Tyzen Hsiao’s Piano Suite "Memories Of Home"

Tyzen Hsiao is a modern composer,pianist and conductor in Taiwan,known as "Taiwan Rachmaninoff--the last romantic piano poet".He devoted his life to integrating Taiwan’s native music into Western music,and his music style was deeply influenced by Chopin,Rachmaninoff and other composers in the Romantic period.This thesis mainly studies one of his late piano works,the piano suite "Memories of Home".Based on Taiwan folk songs,this work integrates western classical and romantic composition techniques to create piano music works with romantic and ethnic characteristics,forming a unique music style.This thesis is divided into three parts.The first part analyzes the formation process of Tyzen Hsiao ’s music style and the creation background of his works.The second part is an analysis of the artistic characteristics of "Memories of Home".From the two aspects of lyric expression under the influence of Romanticism and the penetration of folk music language,it conducts an in-depth study of the musical style characteristics of the work,summarizes its artistic characteristics,reveals the integration of Chinese and Western techniques in the creative techniques,and deepens the understanding of the work.The third part is the performance analysis of Memories of Home,analyzing the playing techniques and music processing of the six pieces of music from the aspects of touch keys,strength,speed,fingering,syntax,pedal,etc.This part combines the author’s practical playing experience and puts forward some of his own opinions.
