Chunk is a kind of prefabricated language unit that is commonly found in natural languages.In recent years,chunk theory has received much attention in the field of linguistics,and has gradually become a hot topic in the field of Chinese as a foreign language.At present,the research on chunks in the Chinese as a foreign language mainly focused on the compilation of chunks in textbooks and the teaching of chunks,but less attention has been paid to the chunks in the new HSK test questions.According to the purpose of the new HSK test,which is to promote teaching and learning through examinations,the analysis of chunks in the new HSK test can,to a certain extent,provide suggestions for the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language and improve teaching efficiency and teaching effect.The paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which summarizes the achievements of the new HSK test and chunk research,and gives a brief overview of the overall research situation,explaining the significance of this paper,the research method and the sources of the corpus.The second part is about the definition and classification of chunk.Based on the research results of predecessors,this paper defines chunk as a linguistic unit composed of words,which is less than or equal to a sentence,with relatively fixed form and meaning,and can be stored and used as a whole.The chunks are initially divided into four categories:collocation chunks,frame chunks,set chunks and idiomatic chunks.In the third part,based on the chunk theory,we analyzed the distribution and recurrence of the chunks in 20 sets of test questions in HSK 5 and 6 by combining the chunk theory with the statistical analysis.In terms of the distribution of chunks,it was found that there is a great difference in the number of chunks between the new HSK 5 and 6,but the distribution is almost the same.In the aspect of chunk reproduction,it was found that the chunk reproduction is affected by fixity and context dependence,the higher the fixation and the higher the context dependency,the lower the recurrence rate.And the overall trend is that the number of recurrences is lower.The fourth part based on the communicative nature of chunks and the distribution of chunks in the test questions,analyzes the application of language testing theory in the new HSK test questions from the perspective of chunks,it is found that the setting of chunks in the test can enhance the authenticity of both the situation and the communication.The fifth part based on the above research,puts forward some suggestions on the compilation of chunks in TCFL textbooks and the teaching of chunks in Chinese as a foreign language.The author holds that teaching materials should show chunks in texts,exercises and notes,and ensure the repetition of chunks,and that in the process of classroom teaching,teachers should pay attention to the cultivation of learners’ chunk awareness and the determination of teaching priorities,practice more.
