| The report of the Party’s 20 th National Congress pointed out "the fundamental principle of education is to cultivate virtue.Colleges and universities should fully implement the party’ s education policies,fulfill the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and nurturing socialist builders and successors who have all-rounded development in morality,intelligence,physical fitness,aesthetics and labor skills." Curriculum thinking politics is a kind of comprehensive education concept which takes "establishing morality and educating people" as the fundamental task of education,and it has received wide attention once it was proposed.In the context of the Great Thinking and Politics,college English,as a compulsory public course with the widest audience,shoulders not only the responsibility of cultivating the intercultural communication ability of college students,but also the mission of extracting and absorbing advanced Western culture,disseminating Chinese culture and enhancing cultural confidence.Accordingly,it is of great significance to explore how to fulfill the fundamental task by standing firmly in the position of thinking and politics in the course of College English.Based on understanding relevant core concepts,mastering theoretical foundations,and reviewing domestic and foreign research,questionnaires for both teachers and students were designed,revised and distributed to investigate the current status of ideological and political implementation in the course.With college students and front-line College English teachers from several universities in Heilongjiang Province selected as the research objects and questionnaires distributed to obtain research data on the implementation of ideological and political education in the course,the study strives to explore the existing problems in the ideological and political construction of College English Courses and identify areas where improvements can be made.By conducting statistical analysis of the data using SPSS software,observing some College English classes,and interviewing some university leaders and front-line college English teachers,it was found that there are several problems with the ideological and political construction of College English Courses in some universities in Heilongjiang Province.These include the need to improve the institutional mechanisms for ideological and political education in some universities,inadequate inclusion of ideological and political elements in textbooks,insufficient ability of some teachers to cultivate students’ ideological and political awareness,and low interest and sense of achievement among students regarding the ideological and political aspects of the College English Course.In view of the problems identified,we analyzed their underlying causes and proposed strategies for the ideological and political construction of College English courses.The recommended strategies are as follow: First,to improve institutional mechanisms and ideological and political environment in universities.Second,to scientifically design and select teaching materials to enrich ideological and political resources in the curriculum.Third,to strengthen the construction of the teacher team and enhance their ability to cultivate students’ ideological and political awareness.Last but not least,to stimulate student interest in ideological and political education and improve the effectiveness of ideological and political construction.Through the above strategies,we hope to accelerate and improve the ideological and political construction of College English courses,so as to cultivate the builders and successors of the socialist cause who meet the needs of social progress and national rejuvenation,with a sense of patriotism,international perspective,and the ability to shoulder great responsibilities. |
