The Study Of Jameson’s Postmodernism Cultural Criticism Theory

Frederic Jameson is a famous Marxist theorist and cultural critic in contemporary America.He occupies a core academic position in the field of Marxist research abroad.Jameson takes Marx ’s theory of production mode as the main code,analyzes and studies capitalism from the cultural level,exposes the prominent class contradictions and alienation in western society,lays a solid theoretical foundation for us to understand and study the operation logic of postmodernism culture and capitalism,and brings important enlightenment to the construction of Chinese culture.Based on Marxist philosophy,this paper interprets Jameson ’s postmodern cultural critical theory.The paper has three chapters.The first one introduces the historical background of the theory and sorts out its theoretical origin.Marx ’s theory of mode of production laid the identity of Jameson ’s Marxists.With the help of Lukacs ’ s overall thought,Jameson sublated and integrated historicism and structuralism,breaking the limitations of Western Marxist stage analysis.Mandel ’s theory of late capitalism directly influenced Jameson ’s theory of cultural staging.Combining the critical theory of Western Marxism,Jameson put forward the theory that postmodernism is the dominant culture of late capitalism,and criticized capitalism from the cultural level.The second chapter mainly interprets Jameson ’s postmodern cultural critical theory.First,after completing the theoretical construction of cultural criticism,Jameson put forward the theory of capitalist cultural staging,believing that its dominant culture is postmodernism.Jameson takes historical materialism as the core,grasps the operation logic of contemporary capitalism in an overall and dialectical way,reconnects the historical context of cultural form and real society,and criticizes the essence of capital operation.Jameson pointed out that there was no fundamental change in the logic of capital in the late capitalist society,and defended Marx ’s discourse power in postmodernism.Secondly,Jameson combines postmodern cultural representation and cultural industry,and proposes that mass culture is the form of postmodern cultural logic.Jameson discusses the internal relationship between the mode of production and the cultural superstructure and cultural ideology,and criticizes the invasion and cultural expansion of the ideology of daily life in the consumer society behind it through the characteristics of mass culture.Finally,from the perspective of historical materialism,Jameson found its spatial attributes through postmodern cultural representation,and proposed that the ultimate feature of postmodern culture is spatialization.In order to solve the known dilemma of postmodernism,Jameson returned to the general view and advocated the construction of cognitive mapping as a theory of cultural resistance space.The third chapter discusses the contemporary value and limitations of Jameson ’s postmodern cultural critical theory.The article affirms the theory ’s defense and development of Marxist theory in the post-modern context,its criticism and reflection on contemporary capitalism,and its enlightenment to China ’s cultural development.At the same time,the article also points out that the internal contradictions of the theory are irreconcilable and out of touch with practice,and finally move towards allegorical pessimism.
