Research On Historical Romance Novel "The Romance Of The Gui Xi"

Huang Jishu absorbed western expression techniques on the basis of traditional historical romance novels and created "The Romance of the Gui Xi".The novel narrates the rise and fall of the Guangxi military group from the Third-person pronoun perspective of the "storyteller",presenting a historical picture of the struggle between the factions in the Republic of China.This paper adopts the method of text analysis,placing the work in a specific historical context for detailed analysis,exploring the characteristics of the novel in terms of story plot,character creation,and environmental description,and summarizing the theme and ideas of "The Romance of the Gui Xi".Finally,a comparison is made between "The Romance of the Gui Xi" and ancient,modern and historical novels in terms of creative concepts,character shaping,and other aspects,to explore the relationship between "The Romance of the Gui Xi" and traditional historical novels.This paper is divided into seven parts,mainly discussing from the following aspects.The introduction section includes the reason and significance of the topic selection,research status,research methods,and ideas of the paper.Since its publication in 1988,"The Romance of the Gui Xi" has been deeply loved by readers,and paper books have been reprinted and reprinted.The academic community has also conducted research on the artistic achievements and cross textual value of "The Romance of the Gui Xi",but there is still significant research space and value.The first chapter of the main text mainly discusses the characteristics of the plot of "The Romance of the Gui Xi".The novel has two major characteristics in terms of plot:dramatic and legendary.The drama lies in the continuous contradictions and conflicts in the plot,which are interrelated,relatively independent and closely connected.The legendary nature is reflected in the novel’s ups and downs,twists and turns,and the story plot that transcends reality,which is intricate and captivating.The second chapter mainly analyzes the characteristics of character creation in "The Romance of the Gui Xi",with Li Zongren,Huang Shaohong and Bai Chongxi as the main objects.The saying goes that we know character through details,and fate through character.From the language,psychology,and other details of the characters,it can be seen that the three are respectively leaders with leniency and benevolence,brave and witty generals,and highly conceited military commanders.The personalities of the three can reveal their different destinies in the future.The third chapter mainly elaborates on the characteristics of environmental description in "The Romance of the Gui Xi",including two dimensions: social environment and natural environment,and explores the important role of typical environments in specific time and space in shaping typical characters and storylines.The turbulence of the social environment has aroused the desire of the people for change,and the aggression of external powers has aroused the resistance of the entire nation;The description of the natural environment highlights the tense and dangerous atmosphere,reflecting the metaphorical connotations of the times.The fourth chapter summarizes the theme and modernity expression of "The Romance of the Gui Xi" by sorting out the text.The prosperity of the Gui clique lies in following the historical trend,while its failure lies in moving against the historical trend.Their rise and fall reveal the main theme of history: "Prosperity leads to prosperity,while adversity leads to death".Huang Jishu creates from a modern perspective that transcends and surpasses history,presenting a creative concept that keeps up with the times.Chapter 5 compares the creative concepts,character shaping,and forms of "The Romance of the Gui Xi" with ancient historical novels represented by "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and modern historical novels such as "Popular Romance of Chinese Dynasties"."The Romance of the Gui Xi" did not draw on the creative concepts of previous theories of circulation and destiny,but rather had its own creative ideas;failure to shape idealized and typified character images;innovations have been made in the title setting and the beginning and end of the chapter.Conclusion section.Compared to traditional historical romance novels such as "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Popular Romance of Chinese Dynasties",Huang Jishu’s "The Romance of the Gui Xi" has a certain degree of inheritance and innovation in plot,character creation,and environmental description."The Romance of the Gui Xi" provides a reference for the future creation of historical romance novels.
