| The deepening of education reform and the renewal of the English curriculum standard puts forward higher demands for the competency and quality of teachers.Instructional design competency,as a crucial task for teachers,represents the professionalism of teachers.It influences the implementation of curriculum,the growth of students,the development of teachers,and other aspects of teaching.Pre-service teachers who studying in normal schools lay a solid foundation to be qualified and first-class teachers.The understanding of instructional design requirements,the process of instructional design construction,and the competency of instructional design implementation directly impact the quality of teachers’ teaching.It is necessary to understand the current situation and analyze the existing problems of English student teachers’ instructional design competency.Based on the theory of Constructivism and Teacher Development,70 English student teachers,majoring in English teaching at Guangxi Normal University are taken as research subjects.This paper investigates the current situation of pre-service English teachers’ instructional design competency by means of the analysis of teaching plans,questionnaire surveys and interviews.The research aims to solve two questions as follows:1.What is the current situation of pre-service English teachers’ instructional design competency?2.What are the reasons for the current situation of pre-service English teachers’ instructional design competency?Through analysis of the research data,it found that the current situation of pre-service English teachers’ instructional design competency is generally good,which is above the average level.To be specific,the pre-service English teachers are less able to carry out the instructional design theory in their instructional design.They are too rigid and single in choosing teaching models.In addition,Most English student teachers have a poor understanding of teaching objective which can not satisfy different learning level of students’ needs and lack action in the evaluation and reflection of instruction design.In this study,there are various reasons for the effect on pre-service English teachers’ instructional design competency.Among them,personal factors are the main reason that influence English teachers’ instructional design competency.The factors include pre-service English teachers’ learning motivation,teaching enthusiasm,and related curriculum learning.In addition,related curriculum and lectures,and a strict internship management system in normal schools also impact the pre-service English teachers’ instructional design competency development.In response to the results,the researcher elaborated some feasible suggestions for pre-service English teachers,normal universities,and internship schools respectively.1)Pre-service English teachers should make an effort to learn related theory and establish life-long concepts;2)Normal schools should increase teachers’ teaching skills curriculum proportion and enact a strict and competitive internship assessment standard to improve the quality of internship.3)Internship schools should provide more opportunities to implement theories into reality for pre-service English teachers so as to understand students’ situations. |
