Perspective Shift In Translating Complex Structures Of English Sentences

Perspective shift is the manifestation of reorganization of the source language information.From the perspective shift between different systems,it can be classified into level shift and category shift,the latter including structural shift,class shift,unit shift or rank shift and intra-system shift.From the perspective shift between different grammatical dimensions,it is a grammar-related translation process.From the perspective shift between different options,it can be divided into mandatory shift and selective shift.Perspective shift can effectively solve problems in translation practice.Thus,based on the theory of the perspective shift,this thesis focuses on the translation problems of complex sentence structures and gives solutions.The source of materials for this translation practice is Chapter I,Chapter II,and Chapter III of Effective Forms of Environmental Diplomacy.According to different kinds of complex sentence structures in the materials,this thesis sums up three kinds of translation problems.Firstly,the clauses and clauses are combined to form complex structures.Secondly,the clauses and clauses are embedded to form complex structures.Thirdly,the different phrase structures and clauses are combined to form complex structures.Illustrating with examples,these three kinds of problems are refined into: combination of object clause and attributive clause,combination of adverbial clause and adverbial clause,embedment of attributive clause and object clause,embedment of adverbial clause and attributive clause,combination of participle phrase structure and clause,and combination of prepositional phrase structure and clause.For these six types of problems,the corresponding solutions are as follows: the inter-sentence split perspective shift method,the word order perspective shift method,the intra-sentence split perspective shift method,the logical perspective shift method,the unit perspective shift method,and the word class perspective shift method.In this report,on the basis of translation practice,translation problems and corresponding solutions are proposed,hoping to provide reference for translators who follow up on relevant translation practice.
