Visual Narrative Research On Information Visualization Design

In recent years,although studies have emerged in the field of information visualization research to explore the effects of data narrative representation,these studies still struggle to address the difficulty of users to quickly read the information conveyed by works in practice.This suggests a lack of research in the field that combines the characteristics of users’ cognitive structures with a narrative logic approach.In narrative theory,it is suggested that things that convey meaningful information have narrative properties,the strength of which affects whether the information the recipient receives is consistent with what the narrator conveys.This paper examines the establishment of narrative and visual representations of information visualization through the lens of the narrative variables of "textual dynamics" and "reader dynamics" proposed by James Ferron.The process.First,we define the research object of visualization,the concept of narrative and related basic theories,identify the narrative elements in information visualization through the structure of narrative communication,and then delineate the narrative variables in the narrative cognitive system of information visualization;second,we explore the textual dynamics of visual narrative,analyze the primary and secondary relationships of visual elements in visual design,the expression and combination of spatial-temporal and perspective clues,and analyze the narrative theme in visualization Secondly,we explore the textual dynamics of visual narratives,analyze the presentation and combination of visual elements in visual design in terms of their primary and secondary relationships,spatial-temporal cues and perspective cues,and analyze the visual norms of narrative thematic readability,variable perspective relationships and diverse narrative structures in visualization.This paper refines the connection between narrative text structure and visual coding in information visualization,improves the conscious narrative process in visualization design,and further ensures the communication of objective information and the expression of subjective consciousness.On the other hand,a set of guiding principles for effective visualization narratives is provided to provide designers with references for the application of information visualization design for narrative expression in other fields.
