Since the reform and opening up,China’s booming economy has also boosted the development of tourism.China has continued to improve its image, attracting more and more tourists from all over the world. As an important channel for foreign tourists to get travel information, the translation of tourism materials is at the top of the list, which is also of great help in attracting more tourists worldwide. The translation material is excerpted from the “Attractions” and “World Heritage”sections of the official website of Lushan Mountain. The excerpt mainly introduces the scenic spots and cultural and natural heritage of the mountain, which is a window for tourists to have a glimpse of the mountain. The translator encountered a number of problems in the translation process, such as translating the names of scenic spots,culture-loaded words,four-character words(especially synonymous phrases),gaudy sentences, sentences with loose structures, and non-subjective sentences. To solve these problems, the translator adopted various translation methods and strategies based on the three rules of Skopos Theory.Firstly,in the light of the Skopos rule, the translator used the translation method of annotation to deal with culture-loaded words, allowing the target readers to perceive the background information and cultural connotations. The translator adopted the method of omission to deal with synonymous phrases, thus avoiding redundancy of information.Secondly,in terms of the coherence rule, the translator applied the methods of restructuring, conversion and amplification to cope with loosely structured sentences and non-subjective sentences, making the translation compatible with the target readers’ way of thinking. Finally,in terms of the fidelity rule, the translator chose the method of transliteration ad literal translation to translate the names of scenic spots, which not only preserves Chinese characteristics but also is faithful to the source text. For the translation of gaudy sentences, the translator adopted the method of free translation to convey the information accurately.Theoretically, the program proves the feasibility of applying the Skopos Theory to the translation of tourism materials.Practically,it provides references for the translation of tourism materials.
