Motivation is a psychological process or intrinsic driving force that can directly affect the results of language learning.As one of the important factors affecting students’ learning motivation,teachers’ verbal feedback content in English classroom can directly influence the students’ learning emotion.Effective classroom verbal feedback can stimulate students’ learning motivation and play a positive role in promoting students’ English learning.This study investigates the influence of teachers’ classroom verbal feedback on students’ English learning motivation in senior high school through questionnaire survey and classroom observation and puts forward suggestions on teachers’ verbal feedback,students’ learning motivation and how teachers can use verbal feedback to promote students’ learning motivation.Based on this,this study identified the following three research questions: 1.What is the current situation of the English teachers’ classroom verbal feedback in senior high school ? 2.What is the current situation of English learning motivation of senior high school students ? 3.What is the influence of high school English teachers’ classroom verbal feedback on students’ English learning motivation?In this study,250 students from a senior high school in Tianjin were selected for a questionnaire survey,and a total of 10 lessons of 2 English teachers were observed in class,and the data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and Excel software.The following conclusions were drawn: 1.High school English teachers use positive verbal feedback more frequently than negative verbal feedback in class.Among them,the frequency of using positive verbal feedback is at a high level,and the frequency of using negative verbal feedback is at a medium level.2.At present,the intrinsic learning motivation of senior high school students is higher than the extrinsic learning motivation.Among them,intrinsic learning motivation is at a high level and extrinsic learning motivation is at a medium level.3.High school English teachers’ classroom verbal feedback can enhance students’ English learning motivation.Among them,in terms of the influence of positive verbal feedback on intrinsic learning motivation,it can make students feel relaxed in English classes and increase their thirst for knowledge in English learning.In terms of the influence of positive verbal feedback on extrinsic learning motivation,students can feel respected and valued by teachers and increase their confidence in English learning.In terms of the influence of negative verbal feedback on intrinsic learning motivation,it can enhance students’ consciousness and initiative in English learning.In terms of the influence of negative verbal feedback on extrinsic learning motivation,it can make students feel very faced,and like to learn English more.Based on the research results,the following suggestions are put forward for teachers’ verbal feedback,students’ learning motivation and how teachers can promote students’ learning motivation through verbal feedback: 1.Teachers should continuously improve the level of verbal feedback in English classroom through timely reflection and correction.2.Teachers should improve students’ English learning motivation by cultivating their learning interests and enhancing their learning beliefs.3.Teachers should create a good classroom learning atmosphere by accurately using classroom verbal feedback to stimulate students’ English learning motivation.
