A Report On E-C Translation Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

In the globalized world,countries worldwide increase their cooperation and communication with each other,so scientific translation has become more and more important.In recent years,the development of artificial intelligence has changed rapidly,which has led to the increasing demand for scientific translation in this field.It is necessary to study and summarize the translation strategies of artificial intelligence texts,so that the translations can better serve the development and communication of science and technology.The source text of this practice report is selected from the book Rule of the Robots:How Artificial Intelligence Will Transform Everything,which is about the current development and the future strategy of artificial intelligence,and explores the impact that artificial intelligence will bring to human beings.The translator chooses the first and fifth chapters of the book as the research objects,combining the characteristics of sci-tech English to carry out the translation practice under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory.Through practical research,the translator has found that functional equivalence tends to achieve consistency between the source language and the target language at the functional level,so under its guidance,scientific translation can thoroughly reveal the professionalism and rigour of the text.In order to achieve translator should accurately translate terms by consulting authoritative dictionaries and parallel texts,translating nouns into verbs to translate the vocabulary flexibly.At the syntactic level,according to Chinese habits,the passive voice should be changed into the active voice,and long and complex sentences are supposed to be split into short sentences that can be more acceptable.At the textual level,to realize the cohesion between sentences,the reiteration method can be used to reappear the content referred to by pronouns and the omitted content.And literal translation or amplification method can be used to manifest the coherence of the text.Through this practice,the translator summarizes those methods suitable for the sci-tech text under the functional equivalence theory,aiming at providing relevant experience for other translators.At the same time,the translator also found that a rigorous scientific translation requires translators to master relevant professional knowledge and sufficient practical experience.Translators must keep learning and combine the practice with the theory so as to achieve the equivalence of text translation at all levels.
